Happening Quickly - Should I worry?

Hi everyone...I am new here and have read many stories about their long journey to the band...I have the opposite and am wondering if I should worry that I won't know enough come surgery?

I had my free consultation on January 23rd, which turned into having my physical same day and scheduling my surgery February 14th....I have read the Lap band book front to back and have been reading online forums, but am worrying that I should know more...any advice is truly appreciated.

  • You'll be fine as long as you follow your Dr.'s directions, from visit to visit.... Sometimes learning and reading too much only adds to the confusion...I know I read everything I could get my hands

  • Get your diet that you will need from your surgeon and follow his program. If he doesn't give you that then find another surgeon. Follow up care is more important then having the surgery.

  • In case you haven't viewed these videos, they're a wonderful intro to what is to come. But, remember, all doctors have different protocols so don't be surprised if your doctors advice differs from Dr.

I almost feel like I'm at the point off harassment ..I call a lot ..try to stay on it....but to no avail...:(

My suggestion is to post a new thread asking about the insurance process to help you feel better about it or see if there are some other threads with this same concern...maybe do a search on "too long" or "insurance process/timing." I wish I could shed some more light, but I didn't have the benefit of insurance for this procedure....so sorry.

Nice chatting with you too...definitely let me know when you hear about your date, so I can cheer you on! Best of luck to you too!

I'll be able to have the surgery pretty much when I want since I'm self pay but I'd rather have the insurance backing me since it's such a lot of money. I was pretty much ready to commit while I was in the office the other day but I decided that I should think it through but now I wish that I'd jumped in. I want it done just like the rest of us here but I've over done the research and gotten myself freaked out! I've also read the book they gave me the other day and it is very informative. I'm staying off the internet other than here. LOL!

I've been doing this sense October ..and still don't have a surgery date yet.....?????

I started back in October to. I finished all my appointments and still did not have a date so I called the dietician and the psychiatrist to have them refax my stuff. Once that was done I got a call to schedule my date. Maybe you should call just to make sure everything is in place :)

I agree, for me it was waiting for the other doctors to fax over my previous weight histories. After I realized that it wasn't a priority to my insurance coordinator at my wls's office, I called to inquire as to the hold up from my previous doctors, once I did that, they sent the histories, and everything fell into place. You have to advocate for yourself, cause sadly you aren't often a priority (sadly) to others. So take the initiative to do the insurance coordinators job. I couldn't even get my first appointment with the surgeon until all paperwork was sent to their office. Best wishes :)

"What if some food goes down before I am done making it "mush?"

I wondered the same thing! It's happened once to me (in the last 9 months post op). Luckily it had already been chewed a bit so it just got a little stuck for a minute. I spit out the food that was still in my mouth and waited until that sneaky piece went through the band. Your worries are justifiable. Take it slow and follow the rules. Your band will let you know when you get lazy with the rules. Good luck!

I find this to be true for me several times a week. I'll be eating, chewing and then I get this slight feeling/signal that food is backing up in my pouch or esophagus. I can either spit out the food in my mouth or chew much slower till the feeling goes away and the food passes through the stoma. This is actually a step forward for me. 6 months ago I either didn't recognize the signal or was eating so fast that I just ignored it. Now, I'm having much fewer total stuck episodes.
