What are your expectations for long term follow up care? My cousin had a bypass here in the states and is concerned that by going to Mexico for surgery, I won't get appropriate after care for my VSG. Now my PCP has asked me what my expectations from her are and I cannot really think if anything past checking my sutures.

Am I missing something?

Not only does my states side surgeon do routine blood tests ( CBC, complete metabolic panel, parathyroid, etc) every few months to make sure they are looking ok or not.. he is there to guide me through dietary choices and any side affects that may arise (gerd, gallbladder, etc)

You should have someone running labwork about every three months. Your surgeon in Mexico may be able to give you a list of the tests that need to be run - it's more extensive than usual patient labwork. I know mine checks for vitamin and mineral deficiences, sodium and potassium levels, albumin/pre-albumin (something like that).
