Two Years Out

Recommended Posts

hi all.

Well, its coming up two years since i was banded. ive lost about 35 lbs… the last four months ive not had much weight loss. Ive been having issues with heart burn .. really bad. I put up with it for so long hoping that i could manage it myself without losing any fill. but, after nights of sitting up in bed afraid to sleep because of the problem, i knew i had to go back and get some fill taken out. I was weighed and had lost about 2.2 lbs over that time, at least i hadn't gained.

another problem that was developing was the fact i was turning to foods that i shouldn't have been eating, foods that were easier to digest… like mashed potato, cream, Pasta, not good. I knew i had to do something. anyway, i had about a 1/4 CC taken out on wednesday. My stomach is still a bit touchy but nowhere near as bad. AT least now i can sit and eat something without the pain.

Even through all this I'm so pleased i had banding done. My eating habits most likely would never have changed without the band putting limits on me. Im the sort of personality that finds discipline very hard unless i have a powerful motivator. I certainly have it now. lol. With summer coming our way (Aust) I'm looking forward to more salad greens than before. i was really concerned because i wasn't getting the nutrition that i needed. Now i have a better chance of a rounded diet… just a lot less than i used to eat.

whats happening out there with those of you who have been banded about two years? Have you had issues like me? judych

I'm really glad you got some Fluid removed. It sounds like you were definitely too tight.

Here's a really great article Jean McMillan wrote called "Tighter Isn't Always Better". She explains why a too tight band isn't only dangerous but how it can hurt weight loss and even cause weight gain: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/161269-tighter-isnt-always-better/

My two year band anniversary is coming up in January but I personally haven't had any of those issues. I tend to be extremely cautious about my band and not over filling it. Thankfully, my surgeon is too.

Best wishes.

It was my fault… i was having some issues, still wanting to lose some weight. We were going on holidays and i was concerned that i would put weight back on so i had a tiny amount taken out. It still left me with problems, even while away. I put up with it. Ive been home now for three months and the symptoms didnt leave. It wasn't until i was sitting up in bed night after night with reflux and vomiting that i knew i couldn't leave it any longer. the big issue was, my diet was getting bad because i was eating foods that were so easy to digest…. those foods were not good, nor were they giving me nutrition.

Its 72 hours now since i had that amount removed and my tummy is still touchy…. so its going to take a while. I left it far too long.

thanks for sharing the site with me. It was me to a ''T''….. eating Soups, cream , chocolate, easy digest biscuits, all those things that wouldnt help me at all….. I'm hoping now that i can adjust to a normal diet. It will take a day or so more for me to know how this unfill will help me…. its got to. appreciate your input. thanks

.. more on this as I'm thinking about it all.

Im so grateful for the lap band. Im now in fitting jeans that i never thought possible… I'm 67 and i look better now than i have for many years. I do appreciate the band and i want to be more sensitive to all the changes i need to make. It has to lead to a far better health. Not only from the outside looking at the body but also from the inside…. where we can't see but it certainly dictates how we live.

I am glad that you had enough removed to get back to eating better. Too tight is real bad! I have been there, too! I still can't sleep after eating and not allowing my food to pass through the band. i have been tired recently, and fell asleep in the easy chair. well I woke up coughing and choking, it was a couple hours before I was normal. YIPES!!!

ouch…. isn't that the most horrible sensation? that happens to me a lot. Im finding that I'm still having some problems of a night. it could be still too much food at evening meal. I need to cut back even more i think. right now its five hours since ive eaten and i have discomfort just starting to build. ive had a quick zee to help settle it down. how long is it since you had some removed from your band?

It has been about 6-months to a year since I had a unfill. I am great unless I eat something that doesn't like my band. It started 2 days agao, and I have had to be gentle with my band. I will be okay, but even after 4 years, I still make mistakes!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
