Good Morning !

A good question here.

What does the preop diet consist of? And how much do they want u to loose before surgery? Does it prepare u for after surgery?

Every surgeon's preop diet is different. My doc required two weeks of nothing but protein shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, broth and water. As far as weight loss before surgery, he didn't require that I lose any. The purpose of the preop diet was to shrink the liver size which means the difference between open surgery and laparoscopic. I do feel that the preop diet prepared me well for what to expect. I was getting used to eating basically nothing with my normal sized stomach so when I got my smaller stomach, it didn't seem bad at all. Hope this helps.
