Joint replacement surgery

Has anyone had joint replacement, namely new knees, shortly after VSG surgery? I am 3 months out, and first knee is 15 Nov. Second at Christmas break. Was wondering how rehab and recovery went.

Thanks for all the replies. My p/tist was amazed at my range of motion. When he checked, it was at 120 degrees. Not bad. Told my to ditch the walker, except in crowds or bad weather. He worked me over

  • Good luck to you dear!

  • As promised, an update. PT came in and we did a serises of bed exercise. Ankle pumps, hamstring sets, quad sets, gluteal squeeze, and heel slides. Had some pain, but actually made the leg feel good. S

My left knee is keeping me from being able to do much in the way of exercise, and the bariatric surgeon cautioned me that even weight loss is not going to improve the level of pain. So I know this is in the cards for me at some point, and I'm worried about the recuperation. I'm especially concerned about how long I might be out of work.

thanks brad for all your updates....I am going for both knee transplants in oct...might as well finish it at one time.

I hope to loose more weight then when I can walk. all the best.

I had my sleeve done 11/13/13 and knee replacement (both at same time) 4/8/14. I had inpatient physical therapy for about a week and I did great (I'm 62). I had lost about 70 lbs when I had the surgery which helped but my surgeon said it wasn't necessary. I feel like a new person! No regrets except wish I had done it sooner. I can now go for walks and exercise more which will help me lose even more weight.

I had both knees replaced a little over two years ago and the results were so good I decided not to jeopardize their lifespan by remaining obese. So Jan of 2014 I got sleeved. Now down over 120 lbs I cannot believe the difference. I bike over 15 miles every night, hit the gym a few times a week and I'm planning on going snow skiing again in March. (first time in over 10 years). And I'm 63.

My advice......if you need it.....don't wait. And if you get it....."ice and elevate" ;)
