Band to plication

My band was too tight and I've formed a pouch above my band causing the worst acid reflux of my life. My doctor is going to take my band out but has given me the choice of putting another band in or trying Gastric Plication. I'm not sure which to go with.....any suggestions?

Thanks,

Brett

Hi brett,

I was banded in 2001 and had a similar problem as you in 2009. I was recently rebanded with the plication. So far I have lost 51 pounds and it has been 5 months. Feel free to look through my blog for more information.

Take care and KUP.

I've not done well at all with GPS weight loss-wise (I just don't have much restriction), but if reflux is the main issue then it should help as this is a variant of the fundoplication which is specifically for reflux. I never had reflux post op (or pre op) and I haven't vomited once since surgery either.

You check your surgeon WRT GPS and reflux as I don't know how far it varies from the fundoplication (I guess you end up with a smaller sleeve).
