Hi guys,

I'm Wendell Edwards, nice to meet you all.

Men with Lap-Bands are RARE in my world, it will be nice to have a group to bounce ideas off of.

Hey Wendell, welcome. I jumped in here last week. I am going to be banded on April 16. What is your date?

that's awesome Brewa.. you and I should have a fat-off and see who makes it to the 170s first....

Hey guys I don't get banded until next Monday. My goal is not far off of yours. I will be a month behind, but I would love to get into the comp. with a couple of guys with experience of where I will be going.

Fellas... I just had the most obvious....or atleast second obvious...of band questions for dudes. Are there any good "band friendly" beers out there? Of course assuming we're watching calories or at our goal weight, could we drink a Guiness or a Newcastle or Boddington's or something? Some of the darker beers aren't really that carbonated, right?

PS washburn.. that works for me. Nothing like a little competition to get the fat burning. What do you guys want to wager? haha.. I got it. How about the last one to hit their BMI target has to post a pic of themselves in a skirt on the before/after board.....

In a skirt, I thought this thread was for guys?

Hey I have a question. I have five days until I get banded. That means five more days on this pre-op diet. I just read on another thread that some splured on their last day before being banded and had one last meal. Is that normal? My doc. has said nothing like that.

i did it about 3 days before surgery, so the meal would pass. I asked the nurse about a week before surgery, she smiled and winked at me, then whispered 'go ahead'.....

Bruce have you had any fills yet? terry

Yes, I just had my second fill last Friday. I've been losing a pound a day since!

Looks like you're off to a great start!

At a meeting last night with some fellow brewers, we talked about that very subject. Everyone was wondering why I wasn't enjoying a homebrew or craft beer. I told them my situation and that I need to stay away from carbonated beverages. I was offered a Guiness because concenses was that it was low carbonation plus low carbs, but I declined. I'd want to try on my own at a later date. Maybe to celebrate reaching my goal. I don't want to embarass myself and besides that, I'm doing so well lately that I don't want to mess it up.

So, for me, if I need to have a drink, it'll be a JD on the rocks.

I had Dr. Kirchenbaum in denver do mine and I asked specificily if I could go the nite before surgery, and he said no problem. I even asked about alchohol to which he said no problem. So we found a nice microbrewery just a couple of bloks from the motel and had a nice steak (no potatoes) and a couple of martini's. Just had to get back early enough to do the laxative thing looking back I guess it was good that mine surgery was'nt until 330pm in the afternoon terryr

I dont think I would do it the day before. Maybe a couple days prior. You dont want a full system the day of your surgery.

I had the same thought before my surgery, but what I decided was that it was the first major act of my own will power to not have that binge meal. The other thing is that after you get your band, you can still eat a reasonable amount, you just cant over-eat. So we still go out to our favorite restaurants and eat the same meals, just way less of it. Before you find your 'fill zone' you will be able to eat more than you should because you will have limited restriction. That's where I am now- I need a 2nd fill because the restriction I was experiencing has diminished a little. The wild thing is that 'over-eating' for me now is 1/4 to 1/2 of what I used to eat pre-band!!! Good Luck!

Hi all

I have a 4/20 surgery date andjust started preop diet today.

I was to start diet on 4/6 but I really did not think that I would have surgery 4/20. Because my wife is having the surgery also, but she went to her first consultation 1 month after me. But she had ins. aproval before me, because they sent her labs and info under my name. and when we got it fixed she was aproved and I'm still waiting. I talked to lapband soultions today and they said that by next week they should have aproval. And to keep up the preop diet for my 4/20 date.

So my question is this.

should I tell them that I did not start the diet on 4/6 or just keep quiet and be extra good.

Hi All, My wife and I had the best Mexican dinner :hungry: in TJ the night before my surgery (and let me tell you it was alot of food). We even had two margaritas each..The staff said just no food after 9 pm.

I don't have any problem with beer. Well, it does cause some burning as it goes thru my system that I never experienced before but other than that I never have a problem. The one thing that is really different with me and beer now (besides watching all those calories) is that I really do not want to drink anything near what I did before. If I get a little too much in me and feel sick... well... just don't drink too much. It's not a pretty sight. The beer does not come back up like it use to if you know what I mean. As long as you are not living at the Animal House then you should be able to keep that under control.

I would say drink beer in moderation and make sure you try some good ones - experiment.

Thanks Harlito. I guess I was more concerned about stretching the pouch out, than getting sick.

On a manly note, I hate this time of year. SO long until football season starts. I enjoy baseball and golf, but football season is awesome. Going to see the Gators spring game with my 2yr old son Saturday. Will be his first trip to the Swamp....
