My friend's mom is the hosptial for three weeks recovering from heart surgery/problems. She is a former teacher and loves to read and I was wondering if anyone had any good book recommendations - I was thinking along the lines of humor and healing but any suggestions are welcome. THANKS

I LOVE most of Nora Roberts. There are lots of special books out right now pertaining to Special Christmas stories, not all romance--but all uplifting and full of hope. I am sure you can find a great assortent especially this time of year!!

If she's an English major, I recommend Kite Runner. It's the best book I've read in years and I read a lot of books. If she likes fantasy, I recommend Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. They are hilarious. I reread them constantly. Even non-fantasy folks like them.

I love Janet Evanovich. Her Stephenie Plum series is funny, sexy and mysterious and roudy all at the same time. Nothing too graphic or raw. Her charactors are just a hoot. The grandmother alone is worth the read.

Dr. Oz's new book, You On A Diet is an excellent healthy read! Also the late Jaquline Suzzane who wrote Valley of the Dolls wrote a book about her poodle called Every Night Josephine that happens to be hilarious! I cannot tell you how many time I have read it!

nora roberts! and i also like jennifer weiner's books! they are hilarious! if she is a teacher, she may also like harry potter

I'm an English teacher, and, of course, love to read. The Jean Rhys book Wide Sargasso Sea is a prequel to Jane Eyre but a more modern-day read. I loved the setting throughout the book. It's also a fast read of 189 pages.
