What exactly IS a little bite?

I know after surgery we are supposed to take little bites and "chew, chew, chew." But I realized today that maybe I don't know what a little bite is?

When I first got banded, I also used baby utensils to help me learn what size bite I should be taking. It really worked well for me. I am now graduated back to adult utensils, but still taking baby size bites.

I do what Wheetsin was describing also. I take fairly small bites, but sometimes I swallow a bit at a time to be extra careful. I am so used to the smaller bites that they seem normal now, but I suppose I cut meat up about the M&M size out of habit now. I also keep with a "when in doubt, spit it out" rule. Anything that wont chew down completely...broccoli fibers, meat fibers, etc... is discreetly spit into a napkin.

Thanks for all the visuals guys! I think the baby untensils are a great idea, and hey I already have them on hand. I just realize that right now, my bites are HUGE compared to this so I'm going to be really paying attention now. Thanks again all!

Seriously I think 1/2 teaspoon is doable. Any smaller pieces and people around you start thinking "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder." For those of us in the closet.

LOVE IT!!!

For me, its just a ladylike bite, not a huge gobful of food on the end of a fork. I've never needed to use baby cutlery or anything like that though. Just perhaps a 2cm x 2cm bite of food.

This is how I think about it too. I guess its probably the size of a fingernail, but I just try to eat like a lady. I always wanted to look like a lady while eating, so I like it  I was always jealous that all the skinny girls could sort of pick at the food like little birds and I felt like I was desperately shoveling it in and then looking for more! Sometimes at home I do use a smaller salad fork instead of a dinner fork which also helps to prevent the shoveling lol.
