Constipation!

I am one week post-op from 11-14. I learned a very important lesson today! Being a very regular gal, I didn't take my discharge instructions seriously and didn't pick up ant stool softener. Figured if problems cropped up, I'd deal with it then.

WELL! I should probably post this under pre-op! FOLKS, that's good advice! You take the trauma of surgery, add a highly concentrated protein diet, throw in not being able to get a lot of water in after surgery, then top it off with narcotic pain medication and BAM! I spent my Thanksgiving morning in the emergency room, getting an enema and almost had to be de-impacted!! And that was after 12 hours of hell at home before-hand. OMG!!!

So yes, take the stool softeners from day one, get as much water in as you can, walk, and wean yourself down on the narcotics. And maybe keep a suppository at home just in case!'
