Hi i am going to monterrey also, but my lapband:nervous is scheduled for 11-07-06. wish it were sooner. who's your doctor? mine is dr rumbaut

My doctor is Dr. de la Garza. I hear Dr. Rumbaut is terrific! Your going to have a great experience, Im sure. Im going with de la Garza because a friend of mine went to him and also hes a little cheaper and the hotel is right in the hospital and since Im going alone I thought it would be good.

I feel like I should be doing something?? Are you supposed to do any special pre op diet?

they sent me a pre-op diet based on you bmi, which mine{ 38-40} was one day of full liquids. i think i might do several days and then the last day of clear liquids, i would hate to get all the way to mexico and not be able to be banded. they say that the diet shrinks the liver so they can retract it to place the band.what are u suppose to do?i have heard that some are on liquid diet for 2 weeks, that would be very hard.what is you bmi?:biggrin1:

My bmi is 36. I would like to lose about 90. When I spoke to them a couple of days ago they said they would be sending me some sort of package in the mail so maybe it will have instructions to do so, however my friend who had the surgery back in January with de la Garza said that the night before, they had their last supper(you know what that means:hungry: ) It was her and a friend having it done the same day. So who knows? I DO KNOW I WONT BE DOING THAT.

yes, one of the nurses i work with in the er is going with me. i am more scared of flying than the surgery. i saw you wanted to lose 90lbs and you bmi is 36? what would that make your goal weight? just curious . i am 225# and my goal is 145#. i have not been that since i was a toddler:rolleyes:

Well my height definitely works in my favor. Im just a hair shorter than 6ft. and I weigh 265 and would like to be 170ish. Thats nice that you have a buddy to go with you. I see you dont have too much to lose. We will be reaching our goals before we know it! Im excited!

I went to De la Garza :-) I liked him, and I didnt dare eat my last BIG meal, I was way to nervous about surgery the next morning. I had a good experince there. I was about a 35 BMI and I will be 6months on OCT 4th :-) I am currently weighing 127 , but I am short :P...lol I am now a normal weight but still would like to be about 120. GOOD LUCK GIRLS

I went to Dr. de la Garza, too...and I didn't have a pre-op diet or anything to follow...just showed up, did my pre-op bloodwork, etc., had a little chicken that night before surgery, and away I went the next morning...I went alone, too, and honestly, the only bad part of going alone for me was talking to my hubby and toddler on the phone the day after surgery - I felt yucky and didn't like being there by myself, but once I got up and about (saturday about noon) I was a lot better...

And flying home wasn't that bad - I was sore, but not unbearable...

Good Luck! Look forward to hearing about your experience when you get back!

I Plan On Going To Cincinnatti Ohio To Dr Trace Curry, I Called His Office And They Said That Would Be Fine, It's About 3.5 Hrs From Where I Live But I Live In Sw Va. So That The Closest? Did I Spell That Right? And Ive Heard Really Good Things About Him On Message Boards. I Think They Said The 1st Visit Was 300 And The Either 150 Or 200 For Fills.

Thanks TrueBlue. It helped hearing about your experience. I worried a bit about the flight home, that put me at ease. I imagined me teetering around an airport hunched over and standing in line at customs hehe. Well the freinds i wrote about in my earlier post, the ones that had their last supper.......one of the girls had to be pushed in a wheelchair and was throwing up at the airport! Im not posting this to scare anybody but I really think It was due to them pigging out the night before surgery.
