I am having a terrible time with thirst. I drink Water but I miss Diet Coke. Can anyone tell me how to break this addiction? I haven't had one for 7 weeks and I still want one.

You are already breaking it - it takes time but eventually the craving WILL subside. Take it from one who quit a 28 year 2 pack a day smoking habit, and a serious diet coke and coffee addiction prior to my own surgery. I just keep telling myself it is something i used to do. I never want to go through having to quit any of these things again - that idea alone helps me when I get cravings for the stuff i should not have.

My NUT says that drinking carbonated beverages is one of the most detrimental things you can do post WLS - I have even heard that some docs recommend it to stretch out your sleeve when you want to eat more (i.e. stop losing).

Yeah I haven't had any for 2 months but I really miss the carbonation sometimes- not even because I had any addiction becuse I didn't. Just one of those things that sound so good sometimes. What have you replaced it with? I've been drinking Water with MIO....

I love diet snapple and propel!! Nice icy cold glass and I'm a happy girl. I'm nine months post-op and tonight at dinner I thought about having a little glass of orange soda- until I read the nutrition label!! 12 oz = 190 calories and 50 carbs!!!!!! Reality check!!

I have the same problem except that I'm a fan of the bubbly waters. No calories but still a no-go. :(

I take another route.... whenever I get the craving, I just take one sip...don't think it would hurt.......

You could always try some flat coke.

I will say for me the memory of how good and refreshing my cherry coke or coke zero was is far better than the tastes of it I had after the op.

It was not the same after the op, kind of a “oh not all that exciting or good at all really”

I still like the memory of it better than the reality the memory is its warm/I am thirsty ohh how nice would an ice cold coke be right now! Mmmmm that would be good down a whole glass no worries!

Reality is the few sips of flat crap is rubbish and too sweet tasting.

I was a serious Diet Coke junkie pre-op. I have had one sip of my wifes Diet coke since surgery, and it was not all that I remembered. I used to hate drinking just plain Water, but now I cannot get enough of it. Funny how the sleeve changes everything.

All good advice.

My angle is I try to be a food snob! Might not work for everyone but whenever I see someone eating/drinking something I "can't" have I try to turn my (inner) thoughts into something along the lines of "Ugh, I don't drink diet coke/coke/beer. It does nothing for my body and I won't put that crap inside my teeny tiny stomach".

Space is at a premium in this sleeve of mine.... I TRY to make every bite count and at the end of the day soda never got us anywhere good.

That being said I too get bored of Water.... especially when at a restaurant I'd love to order a diet coke.. but I don't. You're breaking the habit.. don't feel bad that the temptation is still there. It'll lessen over time :)

I agree - great advice. For myself, and knowing my tendency to say "oh it is okay if I just have a little taste, sip, what have you" - that got me to 318 lbs...so I am going the abstinence route for the most part.

Certain foods that are very sliderish I tend to like a little bit too much after surgery, and now that the taste buds are back I try to be very careful - because I am definetely addicted to a whole host of food and drink I should not have right now :)

I never drank anything other than diet dr pepper pre-op (a 2 liter a day at least). I am 3 1/2 months post-op and I will admit to a sip or two but it's just too sweet now and doesn't have that same zing to me any more. For at least 8 weeks pre-op, I WANTED one, no NEEDED one, every day but I didn't give in. Now, I no longer want them. Yeah!!!

I drink Water, crystal light, propel zero, fuze slenderize, Water with a splash of tea.

Good luck! Don't give in. It's the best thing you can do for yourself. Experiment with the zero or very low calorie drinks that are water based and find things you like.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
