Hungry before dinner

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone has some words of wisdome for me here. I was banded on July 24, and go for my first fill tomorrow. It is 6:03 pm, and I am cooking dinner right now, and I am STARVING.

I had lunch around 12:00 ( 1/2 cup refried Beans, 1/2 cup applesauce and some sour cream and cheese for the beans). Around 2:30, I had some Protein Shake made with Water.< /p>

How do you all handle being hungry in between the time you come home from work, and the time dinner is ready?

I went to the gym and worked out for a little bit, but that did not take care of my hunger.

Do you all find that the small meals you have will carry you through the five or six hours from lunch to dinner?

How do you handle this hunger?

As always, thanks .

If I'm hungry, I would snack on a cup of skimmed milk with one granola bar. Its very healthy, and would stop my hunger for at least 2 to 3 hours. But if you don't want to consume calories (casue dinner will be served soon) then a large glass of Water would do the trick and calm your hunger.

You don't have to be starving with the band...

Are you still on mushies? If not, my first suggestion would be to eat solid Proteins, and watch your protein:carb consumption. A solid, chewed Protein is going to last longer in your pouch than a soft liquidy carbohydrate, hence you will feel full longer. Proteins in general fill you up "better" (not necessarily more) than carbs anyway.

Generally, I try not to become hungry like that. I have been eating small meals spaced out about 3 hours apart. That has been working well for me. I have pretty good restriction, and can't eat much at one time, so I go for solid Protein first...unbelievably, those kinds of foods actually appeal to me now! I keep Protein Bars available for quick on-the-go food. I also like fruit and yogurt and iced tea.

No need to feel that hungry.

This is the time I have to call on willpower because I do get hungry, but if I eat a snack in the late afternoon, I will not be able to eat my dinner, guaranteed. I seem to close up at around 5pm and dinner is a very small meal for me, I eat a reasonable one, but if there's ANYTHING in my stomach, I cant fit dinner in. So I suffer it out generally. If anything, I hae a cup of coffee.

And no, small meals dont get me through. I find the band doesnt do that for me, well not anymore. I get full quickly and can stop eating much sonner than I would have therefore I eat less, but I do need to eat a reasonable meal to get me through.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
