Tried solids for the first time...QUESTION???

Today was the first time since surgery trying solid foods. After a few SMALL bites (8-10), I feel like I need to burp, but I can't. I ate very slowly, took very small bites and chewed, chewed, chewed. I don't feel "full", in fact, I still feel hungry. Can someone please explain??? Does this mean I have restriction and am full and just have mental hunger?

Yes, it sounds like you are full. Being full post-band feels differently than without the band. It feels fuller higher up on your chest, not the good ol' belly full that we were all accustomed to pre-band. I agree, to me it felt as though I needed to burp when I was full as well. Congrats, sounds like you have some restriction already!

Hi Kirsten, I was an Ortiz patient as well. I also had a problem with burping the entire time I had the band, I could no longer burp. It is possible you have some restriction, few arefortunate to have it just from the band alone, it could also be you still have swelling from surgery since it was just 3 weeks ago. I had restriction from the band alone for the first 9 weeks then I got my first fill. The full feeling with the band is different from what it was like pre band, you will never experience that "thanksgiving " full feeling again, your body will give you a subtle signal, sometimnes hard to figure it out, for me it was an icecream headache, others I have heard it was a sneeze or a pain in theshoulder or a runny nose. It takes time to figure it out, but ifyou are waiting to feel full like you did pre band, it won't happen, it is most likely mental hunger.

I often get that need to burp feeling too. I also get the hiccups when I'm probably too full. So, I've learned to listen to what my body is trying to tell me. It's a different journey for everyone.

Thanks so much for your input. I'm guessing that the feeling is "fullness", but it's hard to believe because within an hour I'm hungry again. I feel afraid to eat. I think I scared myself with everyone's horror stories of PB'ing. UGH!
