The Basics Boot Camp

  • Popular Post

I get lots of questions regarding how to get back on track. This journey is tough, and one thing I've learned is that I'm not perfect - but if I'm going to move past that I have to figure out how to forgive myself. For me, the main factor in my obesity was my inability to overcome this. So I would give up and gain all my weight back, and even more. I cannot do this to myself!!! I have to pick myself back up and keep it moving. I didn't go through 2 torturous painful weight loss surgeries to just keep giving up. Heck no!!!

So, along my Sleeve Journey, when I noticed I wasn't doing well and needed to get back on track this is what I did:

The BASICS BOOTCAMP:

For 5 STRICT DAYS I will eat only...

Proteins: Seafoods, Poultry and eggs, Dairies, nuts/seeds including Peanut Butter.

Veggies: Green only.

Fruits: None.

Breads/Cereals/Other Carbs: None.

Fluids: One gallon of Water (128 oz.)

Protein drinks (RTD or Powder).

Avoid: Sugar and Sodium

Once the 5 days are over, I am pretty much over the Sugar Carb Demon. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate carbs! I do need them to live a healthy life and since I workout a lot it is important I have them. However, I need GOOD carbs. Whole grains, fruits, veggies... But I don't need processed sugars. White carbs, in cereals, breads, rice... etc.

Lots will do the 5 day pouch test. liquids only is simply from being threatened with my life (post op) or if I'm just feeling sick and to let my Sleevie rest. That's it.

Good luck everyone! This journey is tough, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. Xoxo

Happy Birthday!

Thank you! Yep I'm 38 today. Yayyy!!!

Sounds like a great plan. You say you've had two WLS. What other one have you had besides the sleeve?

I had the Lap Band done on 2/11/08 then revised to VSG on 9/15/11. :)

Cool. Happy birthday!

You look fantastic, and you are a true inspiration. We're about the same age. I hope I can be as successful as you following my sleeve.

Oh Diva! Happy late birthday!!! ( I always say, spread that birthday out for a week! More Birthday is better!)

Happy late birthday Diva!!

Do you count calories when doing the five days? I'm almost 2 months out and am in a stall. Would love to try you five day program but need to know amounts or calories to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I haven't been to my nutritionist post op so have no idea how many calories I should be consuming. Thanks in advance and wow, what an ispiration you are to many of us!!!bigear.gif

LOL Thanks Kim and Lynda! I like to call it my Birthday Month... haha :)

Elixabeth - I did in the early stages during weight loss. I would log all my food in https://www.livestrong.com/login/ It will keep track of all your calories, carbs, sodium, sugar - all that and it's free. There are many others you can use, but that just so happens to be one I chose. Not sure why, it was just easy to figure out I guess. ;) I didn't really ever set a real limit to myself, I just figured if I'm eating right the calories can't go that high. They were always around 800-1,000 for the day and really I burned 1,500 for the day on workouts alone. So you can see it wasn't anything major for me to worry too much about that.

I don't ever log my food anymore, since I'm not actively trying to lose. I do however plan to continue to use this as a way of life if I need to get off a few pounds here and there. Good luck!!! :)

Thanks for the info. I consume about 800-900 calories per day. Dont know why I'm not loosing. I lost 20 lbs week 1 post op and then went about 4 wks with hardly any protein since the shake wasnt agreing with my sleeve and I was scared to eat other things. I think I choked my body really bad! In total if lost about 35 lbs in 2 months so not to bad I guess but it feels horrible to be newly sleeved and have a 2 week stallbanghead.gif ...I will give this a try and let you know how it goes.

Happy Birthday Diva! Thanks for all of the wonderful tips. I plan to use these tools when I heal more. I will be 4 wks out in 2 days.

Let me know Elixabeth! I'm interested to find out. :) I know it worked for me, but it's interesting to know if it works for others.

Hi SR! I'm always glad to tell others how I went about my weight loss. Thanks for the Happy Birthday! Really, I'll probably need to do this myself next week... too much birthday fun ;)

Happy Birthday Diva!! I am nearly the exact age as you (you are 5 days older tongue.png )!!

I read your posts and see your pictures and hope that one day, I am as sucessful in my journey as you have been in yours. Thank you for being you!

Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you my fellow Sag!!! :) NO doubt you will be here too - no doubt at all. It's a Sagittarius thing. LOL

Happy Birthday (a little late). Mine is today. We December babies are doing great. I plan to use your 5 day the next time I hit a stall. I JUST got off one today. Almost a month with nothing and then 5 pounds today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY yesterday LV smile.png I'm starting this today in fact. Birthday weeks a killer! My belly is not looking happy right now. LOL! Oh well, I had my fun - but I think maintenance is really up to each of us individually. We have to realize when it's time to be good and get back to being good, instead of just ignoring it or giving up.
