Best Protein ??

Recommended Posts

I've played with these things for years, since my wife rejected them after her DS and I started mixing them into my instant breakfasts. At the moment I have settled on the EAS chocolate powder that's available at Target and many other places, as I find that is has a fairly delicate flavor (including any objectionable "protein" taste, at least to me) that can be boosted as desired with a little unsweetened cocoa or SF chocolate Syrup depending upon level of sweetness desired. I use the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored powder for non-chocolate use but that's an online order - I would give the EAS vanilla flavor a try based on how their chocolate works for me.

I also use the powders to add to SF Jello pudding as a high Protein snack - sometimes I add greek yogurt instead for a little different flavor blend. I haven't used the powder with yogurt itself since adopting greek yogurt as my standard as that is plenty high in Protein for my needs (about double standard yogurt, 20-22g/cup). The unflavored powders can be added to Jello for use during whatever clear liquid phase you may have (mine was only a day pre-op, so I didn't use it much).

Good luck and enjoy the journey, and particularly the destination.

I used to sell Herbalife and I think they are the best so since my pre op diet starts tomorrow I renewed my license so I could get the discount. Their Protein chicken Soup and Protein Drink mix is sooo good. They also have a vanilla Protein Powder that you can add to lots of things. But by far their shake mixes are the best I've ever tried.

GNC has something called Pro Performance whey Potein 28. There's 28 grams of Protein per scoop. Add 1 scoop to 8 oz of Water. It has 120 calories, 4 grams of carbs and it's DELICIOUS!!! Love, love, love the chocolate.

Good luck on whichever product you decide to try.

I'm scheduled for surgery on 12/14 and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the post op diet. I googled homemade beef broth and the nutrition info said there is 22g of Protein per cup. It seems high to me so I was wondering if anyone knows more about this? Also, if it's true can I just drink 3 cups a day for my protein requirement and skip the powders? I really don't look forward to having to use protein powder!

I guess it depends upon how meaty the "meaty Soup bones" are, but it sounds plausible - better and more palatable than the commercial broths, and a lot less sodium (which is probably what would make me gag if I had to have that much of it.) I think that if you depended upon it as your primary Protein source that you would tire of it quickly (I sure did, and only used Soups for a week or two post op.)

I don't find the powders to be all that objectionable, though I have been playing with them for several years, finding blends that suit me. The unflavored powders can be put into Jello for some variety (though that is another thing I tired of and haven't revisited since) and the chocolate or unflavored varieties can be made into instant SF puddings for a hi-pro snack (which I still use.) The bigger challenge will be finding enough variety to keep you sane, particularly if your doc is one who goes into extensive liquid post-op diets. Thankfully, between my tolerant stomach and surgeon, I was able to progress to more real foods fairly quickly and maintained my sanity through it all.

Good luck to you,

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
