Sick & surgery is Tuesday

Recommended Posts

So I have come down with a cold and my surgery is in 3 days. Just exactly what I needed. I don't have a fever but I had a sore throat that is better today but now I'm all congested and sneezing. I can't take any cold medicine because they told me not to take anything within 10 days of surgery, other than Tylenol. So I'm just sniffing vicks to open my sinuses. Ugh. just venting. There's nothing I can do so I'll manage to get though this also but I feel like my body has nothing to fight with because I have been on this liquid pre-op diet for 4 weeks.

Oh no!! I hope you get to feeling better!! A pre-op liquid diet for 4 weeks would be so rough, ugh. I had just started getting sick the day before my hysterectomy several years ago, didn't tell anyone at the hospital...figured I would chicken out and never come back and do it lol!! I got soooo sick with a chest cold for the next week after my surgery-I thought my insides were going to rip out from coughing so much! I felt like an idiot going to the dr. one week post op for medicine to stop coughing...such is life. :( I hope all goes well for you!

I do hope you get better. I was feeling a little sick a couple days prior to surgery. Well the surgery was just enough to make my immune system useless and that little sick turned into pneumonia for me. If you have any doubts or worries, mention it to your surgeon.

Thanks guys. I'm so annoyed that this had to happen now. I can't even remember the last time I was sick and of course I had to get sick now. I am so congested that I can't even use the netti pot. I tried, but its wasn't pleasant. I did use some Afrin, which i hate to do but I couldn't take it anymore. I slept for about 3 hours and was woken up when my son came home and now I'm like wide awake. I am worried that its going to make my recovery worse or the surgery is going to make the cold worse. But I have waited too long for this surgery and I'm not postponing it. I just hope that I am well enough by Tuesday.

Fusilli66,

Please call your Dr. and mention it to him. He may be able to suggest something for you to take that will not intefer with your surgery. Ask him if you can try Zicam, Qtips that you can swab your nose with. They have always worked well for me and shortened my cold. Since it is supposed to be a natural product, he may let you try that. Also, Vitamin C and Zinc helps also. Good luck with your surgery and I hope you feel better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
