Just the beginning

Hello all, I know this subject has been done several times so please bear with me. I am from Northern New York and have made the decision to attend a seminar. We are going to Ellis Hospital in Schentady on August 4th for it. I have gotten my letter from my primary and am ata 42 BMI. We have Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield and I have already called them to see if the surgery is covered. They told me that after the doctor submitted the request then they will go through the process. I have a few questions. First is there anyone who has been to Ellis for the surgery? How do they determine at the seminar if you are a canidate for the surgery? Does anyone have the same insurance as I do and was it hard to be approved? Thank you for being patient and hope someone can help.

Congratulations on making the decision. The seminar is just an informational step. When I went to the seminar, they covered each of the surgeries and told what the qualifications were. However, it wasn't until I had my initial consultation with the surgeon that I found out for sure that I was a good candidate for the surgery. Part of that determination is the surgeon and psych talking to you to make sure you are really ready for the surgery and understand everything that it entails.
