Chest Tightness Dr. C

Dr. C., I am feeling some chest tightness and have been for about a month. I had my labs done last week and the nurse told me my ECG looked fine. I am still concerned though. When I mentioned it to my PCP in May, he told me it was probably anxiety due to stress. In addition to the tightness, I feel shortness of breath and jittery and all this is when I'm a rest. No physical movement involved. Any comments or suggestions?

Wow, that's a tough one. It doesn't sound band-related, I would have to defer to an internist but you should definitely get it checked out, chest tightness is nothing to mess around with.

Are you banded already, and if so are you on the tight side?

Not banded yet. I have my surgery scheduled for July 11.

You NEVER want to mess with chest tightness. Get every test they will authorize. I had some tightness and after months of tests including an angiogram (pictures of my arteries and heart from the inside), they concluded it was anxiety and stress. Put me on some meds (beta blockers) and all was well.

But every person I talked to said you NEVER mess with it. Get tested. Because if it isn't anxiety, it could be serious. Get the tests and start some form of treatment!
