Finally approved!!! And now I'm scared......

First I've been whining about how long it was taking my surgeon's office to get my paperwork to insurance - I guess I have to take it back, when they finally sent it off it only took three days to hear that I was approved. And now that I'm scheduled and this is coming a reality I'm getting really scared. I'm afraid I'll die and leave my husband w/ our three children. My surgeon has done only gastric bypass and lap bands, I will be one of the first to be sleeved by him. He assures me of his experience and training and says he will do whatever surgery I want by I'm still scared.

On the plus side - he did discount my fee - I'm only paying $1,000 more than I was quoted for the lap band. = )

Anyways - I'm praying everything goes well - anyone else this scared?

My surgeon has done 14 and been doing them for about a year so it was a concern for me. Most everyone is telling me though that the other laproscopic and wls surgery experience is a very big plus. After all, each surgeon doing them had to have a 1st, right? When are you scheduled? I was originally thinking lap band also and changed to sleeve.

May 16th is my big day. Now I'm glad my insurance company has me do a six month diet and exercise program, otherwise I think I would have rushed into the band and feel so much more confident in my decision to get the sleeve. Do you have a date yet?

I'm in the same situation, BUT my surgeon's office is a Bariatric Center of Excellence and he has done thousands of bypass surgeries. Although the sleeve has a longer staple line, the bypass is a more complex surgery. My family doctor also gives him high marks and I really respect her opinions. Finally, I've checked the web rating sites and he gets remarkably consistent high reviews. Finally, he's never had a fatality, and I don't plan to be the first.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, but many offices just started doing the sleeve because insurance just started covering it.

Good luck!

Omgggg christiemon, I feel for ya really. I am going through the same thing, among others. I am scheduled for June 13th, and I just found out he only sleeved 8 :(, so that worries me too, but....he has done thousands of bypasses and bands, and his nurse told me he is 3rd top surgeon in New Jersey, so..., but I really wish u well. Im sure if he is like my surgeon, and has done many surgeries, ur in good hands :) I have every ailment in the book, in addition. I have 3 hernia repairs that need repair, and a hiatal one, diabetes, hb pressure, asthma, copd, lupus, osteo arthritis, sleep apnea, and anything else u can think of, but my intestines r hanging way below my pelvis area, and they need to go in anyway. Because of my 16 surgeries in the last 10 yrs, nobody will touch me. This one trauma surgeon will do it, if i get sleeved at the same time, so Im going under with double trouble!!! You will be fine, and I know ur scared, but what I keep thinking is.. millions of ppl r doing it, and these surgeons dont want law suits on their hands, so if he was not able to handle it, he wouldn't. Im sure ur in good hands, and we will all keep u in our prayers. Good luck, and get better fast so u can get back here and let us know how fine u will be :):):)
