New tummy gas

While in the hospital the nurses gave me liquid Lortab not for pain but to help with the gas pains in my new tummy and it helped. I have continued this at home as well. But when it wears off, the gas rears it's ugly head once again.

Can anyone tell me how long this will last? I am now 6 days post-op and this is my major complaint. I was told to continue the Lortab for two weeks when I left the hospital even though the bottle says, "take as needed." :(
