Surely I am not the only person on this forum that is 60 or over having the sleeve surgery.

I would love to hear from anyone that has had the surgery and how you feel now.

My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 15th, Have had all the pre-op testing completed now just waiting for the big day to get here.

Hi, My name is Sandra. I am currently age 60. I am so happy to have found this site and this forum. I am waiting insurance approval. I hope to have my VS done before the end of the year when my insurance changes to Blue Shield. I am very hopeful. I will be going to Dr. Cirangle. I am not happy about the $5000.00+ they want up front for " non covered expenses".( I am so ready for this I will pay it.!) 60 years old and I realize I am never going to be able to loose weight and keep it off on my own. I have a few concerns. Except for my weight, I am fairly healthy. My problems are all weight related. Joint pain, inactivity, trouble tying my shoes etc.....I look forward to being more active, and hopefully getting in shape. I still worry about gaining the weight back. But my big worry is having the surgery create a new problem. Acid reflux, and choking are two things. I've been told that I can control these things. Any problems I am not aware of that I should know? Thanks for any info. I know I am not old. I don't get it. Silly youngsters.

So Ginny, How has it been. I just got approval from my insurance yesterday. I just need my cardiac test next week and I am good to go. I truly would be interested in your 1st month or so. Please tell me how it is for 60+. Thanks, Sandra60

My name is Priscilla. I'm 61 and in the process of scheduling my VSG with Dr Alberto Aceves in Mexicali Mexico during the 1st or 2nd week of January. My sister is 66 and she just had a Gastric Bypass in Aug'10 in the US. She is doing great now but she did get a very bad infection in one of her laparoscopic sites which was no fun at the time. She WAS diebetic but doesn't even have to take medication anymore. I just don't care to have my intestines rearranged so I'm going for the sleeve which has much fewer risks anyway.

I haven't heard about too many people having complications with the sleeve but of course a lot depends on the skill of the surgeon.

Hi Judy. I am thinking about either having the VSG or the Plication (VSP). Where are you having your surgery? I hope it goes well. Keep us posted.

I am almost 2 years post op. It will be 2 years in April.

I love the sleeve. I did gain some weight over the holidays, but i've gained weight before, when I went on a

cruise. As soon as I went back to my eating plan, the weight fell back off again.

I don't think anyone can be too old for the sleeve. I feel great and can't believe I weigh what I weighed in

high school!

I'm 60 and never had the $ or the insurance to cover any of this so when I came into some $ I paid cash. I don't regret doing so and would do it again. The first week I thought I would die! Then the nausea and pain started calming down and the scales started moving. Hope you have great success in your WL journey.

Hi, no you aren't I have had sleeve surgery and that was when I was 63 and I am 65 now. I was very successful with the surgery and in 14 months I lost 105 pounds. I would love to talk with you and answer and questions you may have about the doctor, what the surgery was like, what I ate and where ever else you might want to know. I had such great support and I feel it is good to be able to give back something to other people.

Well, haven't been on here for a while but I was 60 in 12/2010 when I had the surgery. As of this writng I will say I had a rough start with some complications but those have faded away. I'm 77 lbs. lighter and looking forward to 100!

Although I am not over 60, one of my co-workers/ sleeve mentors is. He is 62. He pretty much talked me into the surgery. He had the surgery in October 2010 with a starting weight of approx 350. He has since lost over 100 lbs and is off most of his meds (bp, diabetes, arthritis, etc). He says that he feels great and has much more energy. He definitely gets around better at work and looks happier! Good luck to you. Sixty is the new 35!

I am glad that you have notice how his life has changed. Yours can too. NEVER give up on getting rid of the weight. You will feel so much better once it is done. We all have a lot of fears and emotions when it comes to having the weight loss surgery. The sleeve is the best, but that is because I have one and love it. It is pretty normal to be scared and excited and uncertain all at the same time. Just know that this is your answer--just look at him. I am thrilled that he is going so well.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I know what you mean about getting nervous about surgery. I almost chickened out several times before I finally did it. My co-worker just kept telling me it is so worth it and helped reinforce my decision. I really admire him and respect his opinion so he literally walked me out onto the edge

I am just at the beginning of my journey but it is nice to have someone to "follow". That's why I love these boards. I hope that I can be a mentor to someone someday who needs this surgery to turn their life around. I love my decision! I am in healthcare and got so sick of being a hypocrite. Now as I drop the weight I can lift my head up high and really help encourage others!
