What happens in the Pre-Op stage ??

I am curious about what happens after you are approved. Dr. Spivak wants me to do a low fat low carb diet for 30 days to lower liver fat. What then? Are there any other pre-ops measures that need to be taken? Blood tests? Barium studies? Or do you just pick a surgery date and go on from there? :)
