I was wondering if when flying does that make your band tighter, a lady once in the hospital waiting room told me that happened to her when she landed and her and the family stopped to eat and she could not all of a sudden swallow her food at all, and on June 21st I am going to Jamaica so I wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else, I am also going for my first fill tomorrow and I will ask my doc

I don't really have a problem when I fly, but anytime I am away from home in general I have problems. It is as though my stomach knows that I am out of town and that I am out of my routine, therefore it gets nervous or soemthing and doesn't allow me to eat. I always enjoy going to visit my inlaws because I drop a pound or two.

I've never noticed any difference, but then nor do I morning versus night, at that time of the month or anything like that.

The biggest thing I noticed last time I flew was that I was actually satisfied by an airline meal, lol

I flew out on the 7th and in on the 12th. My only PB before flying was something I accidentally drank that was not supposed to be in my cup. I PBed on Saturday (not sure what on) and again tonight on a baked chip. I've never had a prob w/ the baked chips before. I figure one of two things:

1. My fill I had on the 28th is just now "kicking in", and I need to, again, re-learn how to eat right or

2. Flying had something to do with it, in which case I think I'd be over it by now.

I have flown many times since I was banded and no problems... This is actually the first I've heard of it.

I've never been THAT tight from flying, but I do tend to stick to liquids for a day after I fly, which is decently easy, because most places have some sort of Soup.

Doesn't happen to everyone tho.

I fly pretty much weekly and there have been definite times when I felt my band became tighter while in the air. Otherwise, I've not noticed any residual problems from flying.

I have flown a couple of times since being banded and haven't noticed any problems at all with tightness. AND now I don't have to ask for an extension

Ok...I'm one of those for whom flying affects. I have to be SUPER careful anytime I fly because for a couple days after flying I have PB issues. Happens everytime. I can even feel it while in the air, it tightens up.

It stands to reason due to the pressure in the cabin. I mean....I use a fountain pen and while in the plane the pressure makes the ink rise up in the pen....so pressure does affect things and my band is basically my own little barometer......

I guess like a lot of things with the band....it depends. Your mileage may vary!

I did experience tightness when flying. Just pass on the peanuts or snack and keep a cup ice handy if you need something. I could not drink but ice was okay. Once we landed, I was able to eat in a few hours so it wasn't so bad. The higher we were, the tighter I felt.

Hmm... I had no change in tightness on the actual flights. I could eat and drink with 0 problems. Once there I seemed a little tighter than usual in the early part of the day, and once back have had two PBs, which is very unusual for me. More evidence that it's probably just my fill kicking in (but the whole idea of a fill having to "kick in" doesn't make any more sense than a flight making you tighter)

I also get tighter when I fly and for a say or so after. It's really no big deal I just skip the peanuts

Interesting thing to note while on a plane. Take along a bottle of water, leave a lid on, but check the bottle on occasion, after take off and during landing. You'll see that that bottle will cave in during the flight. Things that make ya go.. hmm....:second:

i have noticed a change in restriction when flying BUT i also was developing a chest cold at the time.

the last 2 times i flew i had no real change. i think it depends also on your swelling. do you swell when you sit for a long time? cause flying is a lot of sitting. does flying make you uneasy? stress makes you tighter. are you traveling for a stressful reason- work, death, etc.

the band is so fickle that its fickle with its fickleness! you just never know so be careful!

Okay, this isn't personal experience - but my surgeon's nurse (who is banded) told us at an informational meeting that she definitely cannot eat after flying. She actually has to get some unfill before flying so that she can eat when she travels because she will otherwise become sick after anything she eats. Sounds like an extreme case, but that is what she told us.
