shoulder pain

i know that this has been posted before but my dh has some pretty bad shoulder pain. i realize this is from the gas and also the nurse said from his diaphram. he had some complications during surgery but his shoulder is killing him, to the point that the pain meds dont even help. i need suggestions for helping him.
