growling tummy

Recommended Posts

I got my band on Monday, today is Wednesday. My tummy growls all the time. Not the upper part where it's still tender, but the lower part that's used to eating 24/7. Did this happen to you?

Also I feel like I have gas too. Anybody else have this?

rrrsmom,

I had the same exact side effects for a few days after my surgery. I still get gasy even 10 days after my surgery.

This is normal. I'm assuming that you're still on liquids? As soon as you go to mushy/pureed foods, the growling should stop. Gas is also normal. Just walk around as much as you can to keep it moving.

Now, my stomach only growls when I'm hungry. And it sure does growl! You can actually feel it if you touch my belly while it's growling. But this is the nice thing about the band for me, I actually know the difference between physical hunger and head hunger now. I'm only allowed to eat if my stomach is growling. Granted, that's tough sometimes, but for the most part, I stick to that rule.

Good luck to you!

And was I excited to hear my growling, empty stomache? You bet! It told my that my choice was working, that my body would realize that if there wasn't any new food in there, that it would have to start withdrawing from those long stored cells of fat on my hips, thighs, stomache, etc......

Well at least I know I'm normal. When I left the hospital they told me I was ok with mushy. That was 24 hours. They even served me cream of wheat in the hospital. So I am kinda on mushy but the gas pains are subsiding and I can feel the port already. Weird!

I was banded 15 months ago and don't remember too much growling, but I am may not have been able to hear it over the noises of burping, hiccups, etc.

I agree so much with the post that suggested walking as much as you can in these early stages. I wasn't convinced but had my Nazi sister with me (who took the doctor's suggestion to heart) and she had me on brief walks the first day. By the third day I was walking around the block (slowly and looking like a recently released mental patient with bed head hair and lose clothes).

I had undergone other lap procedures and really dreaded the gas--both types. The walking helped so much.

Most of all, congrats on the band. It's the single best thing I've ever done for myself and know that you will love it, too.

Bandluvr,

What part of Texas are you from? I'm from Weatherford, just a bit west of Ft. Worth. It's just SOOOO hot out I really don't enjoy walking....Guess I'll find a cool mall somewhere and try it there!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
