Insurance Won't Cover Hernia, Why?

Recommended Posts

I was recently banded on May 30 and also had a hiatal hernia corrected. I was a self pay for my band but now am finding out my insurance won't even pay for the hernia. Anyone else experience this or know why this is? I understand not paying for the band but not the hernia.

Appeal their decision.

I am assuming it is because it wasn't pre-approved? The hernia fix wasn't included with your band surgery?

No apparantly it was not included in the cost of the band, which I did not realize until I got the bill.

Definitely appeal, perhaps get the surgeon's office to help you. A hernia is a medical issue and is always insurance approved.

It could even be something as simple as a coding issue, or the surgeon needs to submit the bill for the band and the hernia separately.

I would appeal too. That really sucks! I actually just had a hernia repair done on Monday... and my insurance also covered my band being re-positioned even though bariatrics are not covered by my employer! Definitely fight it. Hernia should be covered... for sure! Good luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
