Calcium Supplements

My dietitian's handout lists calcium citrate as the supplement for band patients. I wanted to buy some sugar-free calcium chews at Costco, but calcium carbonate is listed in the ingredients, not calcium citrate. Does anyone know if one supplement substitutes for the other?

Calcium citrate is recommended over calcium carbonate for all women because it is more easily absorbed by the body than calcium carbonate. That said, when I can't find the citrate, I will occasionally take the carbonate. Some calcium is better than none after all!
