Red And Hot Around Port

Hi everyone,

I have had slight pain where my port is located for a few days now. Today I noticed it is red and swollen and I know this could be a bad sign but i'm not sure. I am not in severe pain only if i lay in my stomach, or move in a weird way so I dont know how bad this could be. Any thoughts? Please let me know if anyone has had this happen to them I am very worried and scared.

I would call my surgeons office, it may just be a localized reaction but better to check it out. I had some soreness around my port after surgery but it was never swollen and red at the site.

I agree, call your surgeon and describe what you are experiencing. Usually redness and warmth indicates infection, so you should be checked out as soon as you can. I would imagine that your surgeon will want to look at it, then prescribe you some antibiotics to nip it in the bud.

Yes, call your doctor. Red and swollen usually means an infection...but it can mean other things too. Get this checked out and don't ignore it or wait until you are in serious pain.
