Keep salad fresh?

I've been trying to take salads for lunch lately. I prefer the darker salads like romaine heart mixes. I find that it usually starts to get slimy or turn brown after a few days. I keep it in the bag and put that bag in an airtight container, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any ideas from anyone on how to keep salad fresh longer?

Thanks!

Janiece

I buy the organic salad in the container with the lid on it. I have no problems with it going bad.

I've actually heard that keeping it in an airtight container makes salads go bad faster. They need to be able to "breathe" a little bit. I've seen Zip Loc bags that have small holes in them that are made especially for produce, so I'd give those a try.
