Is band slipping REALLY an issue?

Recommended Posts

I was told that my surgeon sews a piece of the band onto the upper part of the stomach itself so that slippage is a minimal concern. Of course, he told me that slips CAN still happen.. but the risks are decreased.

What say your surgeons?

My surgeon, who has done over 2700 lap-bands, said there are 3 reason why they slip. Excessive overeating, excessive vomiting and carbonation. So as long as you follow the rules, it shouldn't happen.

Yes, it still happens even when the band is stitched into place. It's another good reason to keep your band from getting too tight- too tight leads to vomiting, leads to slipping.

I went to a seminar the other day the doctor that was there said that the reason a band slips is that you are losing fat around your organs and that the organs are becoming more elongated due to the loss of fat so the band slips. He said they unfill the band and wait for a few weeks still the organs have settled in their new spots and then refills the band. What do you guys think? I am very early in this process and slipping is a concern of mine.

(Raising hand) My band slipped after 2 years. I am going to have it revised on June 27. I suspect my slippage was due to excessive vomiting. I got filled once right after surgery and once right after that. It seemed like an appropriate fill. There were times when it felt tight and I would vomit, but then other times it would feel fine, so I never did get it un-filled. I will definitely be more aware next go-round. I did lose plenty of weight though, so it's all good!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
