Denied by Anthem and UHC

I contacted both of my insurance companies today; and both my insurance companys told me WLS are not covered under my plan.

1). Primary = Anthem BCBS Blue Preferred Primary Plus (POS)

As of 2004 they have an exclusion:

I am just now researching WLS. I attended a session for Gastric Bypass but then learned about the Lapband and will attend a session for that on 1/13/04. During the Gastric session many attendees commented on how easily friends of theirs were approved thru UHC. I had UHC until 1/01/04- and am now with HUMANA. I think I am going to be in for a fight, Humana told me the other day, they pay for Bypass- not for Lapband!

My co-worker in Jacksonville, FLA was approved via UHC in 03 and received the Lapband.

I was told that whenever you call many insurance companies directly they are informed by management to tell you they do not cover WLS. There are ways around it, be Persistent and appeal it!

Good Luck!

I have UHC choice plus and it is covered under my insurance policy. It may just be an exclusion thru your company's benefits but not thru the actual insurance company. I think a lot of companies are putting an exclusion rider on their policy about WLS. I'm so sorry, I hope you can figure something out and get it approved.
