Plastic Surgery Over 40

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bandsters, I am contemplating plastic surgery. I want to eventually get a TT, arms, and maybe liposuction (when I hit the lottery OR do a little at a time). The only reservations I have about it is elasticity of the skin past 40. Anyone over 40 that has had any PS past 40 PLEASE respond. If I get it done, I want it to look good and last for a long while.

I have lost 50 and want to lose 30 more and 8 months in. Suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!!

I am over 40 - I was 41 when I had my arms and Boobs done and 42 when I had my TT done - I think that over 50 yes you might have less elasticity - But - Everybodys skin is different....

My PS told me to not raise my expectations too far - Then he gave me what I wanted and so much more - My Belly Muscles couldn't be done as a previous Hernia surgery has left me with a BIG mesh in there - But - I had NO pain with either op I have had and I am SO VERY GLAD I did it - I feel like a whole new woman :) And the Boobs - WOOT - I did that on a whim and I love em! (They were a G cup and are now a D)

I'll plonk some pics in for you...

thanks for sharing your pics Sue, they are really encouraging. I am a good bit older than you but I am sure I will need a TT and a boob uplift would be good. Where did you have your surgery

Thanks for posting this question & pics. I'm in the over 50 group too and the more weight I lose, the unhappier I am with the extra stuff on my belly...so I think I'm headed for plastics too.

I am in the UK - And I was actually 5lb below my target weight when I had the Op :-)

I have made friends with my scars and they really are better than the skin was!

Wow, those pics are great.

I dont see why something like a TT and arms wont give you a great result, its about removing flaccid skin and your skin doesnt have to snap back from that, its gone anyway.

What I was told with regard to Lipo (which I was considering on my buttocks) is that post 40, it gives a poor result there quite often, the quality of the skin is such, especially after a weight loss that it can end up very floppy, I was advised to live with what I had (I'm a terrible perfectinionist, many people would live happily with my "problems").

I was/am also looking at a boob job. Now this is where its disappointing. I'm 43, I've breastfed for over six years in total, lost well over 100lb and never had great perky boobs in the first place. They are truly terrible now, I cant show cleavage (I dont have any) and I actually have to dress carefully to avoid flashing much in the way of breast because they're empty sacks. I was looking at a lift but was told that wont be enough, I would have to consider implants in order to have any hope of filling out that skin, and they'd need to be fairly large ones at that - which is why I've done nothign yet, large obvious breast implants are not really my thing.

Does that mean I wont look like a firm 20 year old? Yep. But the PS was quick to assure me I can look a LOT better.

this was a reputable and respected PS, but I'd still get another opinion or two before I did it. Truth be told at 43, my personal feeling is it probably doesnt matter to me that much, those are parts of my body everyone doesnt see, arms and tummies are a little different.

Hi Sonja!

I am 48 yo and 7 weeks post-op from my Tummy Tuck. I am AMAZED at how great I look already! I feel sexier and more confident than I have in years!

I just passed my 2 year bandiversary, and I'm still 10-15 pounds from my goal weight. But there wasn't anymore belly fat to lose, so I went for it. One thing I'm excited about is my low-profile port doesn't even show and I have FLAT abs now! I WILL be wearing a bikini next Summer!!!!

My advice to you would be to make an appointment with more than one PS, and ask them what result you can expect. Some of them will even do a complimentary consultation. But, even if they don't, it's worth it to find the right surgeon...and you will know which is right!

Good luck to you.

Thank you for posting the pics, they look great. Thank everyone for all the great advice. I actually forgot to add a breast lift and implants. Heck it sounds like I need to just do a body lift. If I had the money I would do it either in March (bandiversary) or next summer. I have met with a consultant ($30) but not the doctor ($70) yet at a minimally invasive clinic. I have an appointment scheduled during the Thanksgiving holidays with another doctor ($100), but I will probably cancel and reschedule later. I think I need to get closer to my goal before seriously considering it (30 more lbs.).

Donna, I noticed you're in Athens, TX.. not all that far from me. Where did you go to have yours done? Locally or did you travel to the big D?

I've heard some good things about a doc in D...

I had an arm lift when I was 43 and it went really well. I'm very happy with the result. It's now 5 months ago so the scars are still fading but even as they are now is loads better than the hanging skin and fat I had before. It's so enjoyable buying clothes without having to make sure the sleeves are extra-wide!!! There was no pain following th op, just a bit of discomfort.

Hi SVM,

I had a TT and boob lift at 51. i am now 53. the results are better then i ever thought they would be. i also had a little bit of liposuction on my thighs and he took some fat and injected it in my booty.

the main reason i did it was to remove the belly skin. i worked out like crazy beforehand the try to avoid the PS. but the exercise could only help so much.

the TT is great. my belly is flat. the doctor did tighten my stomach muscles so if i gain 5 lbs....i feel it. it is a GREAT reminder to slow down.

my favorite part is the boob lift. they are perkey once again.

the Lipo hurt alot and i dont think i would do it again. i dont think it's worth it. no matter how old you are (or young) they cannot reduce the skin in that area. plus they can only take out a limited amount. my doctor only did it to sculpt the sides of my thighs.

i love the booty injection as it rounded out my butt.

But i will tell you i continue to exercise to keep the surgery looking tip top shape.

good luck in whatever you do.

sueham...looking great!

Thank you all so much for sharing. I am going for a consult with a doctor with a great reputation in March. I am excited but scared about the money aspect of it. My insurance will pay nothing but I don't want to wait too much longer. I will continue to exercise no matter what, I have worked too hard to get where I am to blow it now. Thanks again.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
