First meeting with surgeon

Well I had my first meeting with surgeon today. Everything went well..I have to do 6mth supervised diet before I can get surgery but I have already started so I am looking to be banded in January. Can't wait!! After hearing all the horror stories about the preop diet I was told that they do not require it if your under 400lbs. Thank Goodness!!!:(

Was the 6 month diet required by your insurance or your surgeon? My insurance doesn't require it but I'm afraid that the surgeon might...I'm hoping to get the surgery done before the first of the year since my out of pocket max and deductible have both already been met this year, my surgery wouldn't cost me anything. I have already done 2 support groups, the info session, my 1st meeting with the surgeon is scheduled for next thursday and my psych eval is the same day  I'm glad it went good for you though! :)

Hi Jen!

I too am doing my 6 month required "diet". Unfortunately I'm only on month 1 so I don't forsee getting banded until March. I hope the new few months go by quicker than heck. How's the "diet" going for for? Hope all is well!

It was a requirement of my insurance. I havent heard of too many surgeons requiring you to do a diet unless it was a required by your insurance. Hopefully you wont have to and you will be on your way to surgery. Best of Luck!!

Mom_in_MN the diet is going well. I have lost 7lbs so far. My insurance will not allow me to get below 40 bmi before the end of the 6mth supervised diet. They say if you can get below that then you should just stick to the program you are on to continue to lose weight. (CRAZY!) So I can only lose 13 more pounds. Hopefully our 6mths will fly by and before we know it, it will be surgery day!!
