Hi everyone,

I have been on my journey towards having the lapband surgery since last year. My insurance required 6 months of dr notes...Well I forgot to go once or twice so I started again in January.

I was thrilled thinking that by the time I was on vacation from work ( I am a TA) I would be able to have my surgery. Well between scheduling problems and a visit to the gastro that found Hpylori bacteria and an ulcer my surgery has been put off for six weeks.

I did a stint of Prevpac and now on nexium. I go for my second enoscopy next wed and then we will see. Hopefully I will be able to schedule the surgery soon after.

I am both excited and nervous at the same time....Have two family members who have had the surgery. One did fantastic and was male and one not so much and is a female. I am praying that with guidance from others as well as the nutritionist I will do well.

Glad to meet you all.

Good luck Newbie;

I was banded 7/1, weight loss is progresseing ok, I have had one fill and still no or very little restriction. Any weight loss I have is 99% due to my eating habits, vs band activity.

Now to the point of your post --- There are more females here than males. There are many many sucessful females. Don't look too much at your family members. The male may have been highly motivated and the female, perhaps less so.

Even if men lose more easily than women, so what? It just means you have to work harder, maybe not fair, but life is not fair. Not being harsh, but lets look the truth in the face and then we can deal with it.

As I said -- Good luck to you

Regards

Hal

Soontobebanded, welcome, To Lap Bank Talk,

I had to do a number of myself, before Dr would submit

paper work. I'm still waiting for my insur to

approve my surgery.

Hi Hal,

I absolutely 100% agree with you..>I do not think the female is as motivated...I am looking forward to good results...This is a tool I need to help. That and some exercise I am hoping with really help.

Hi Sourmissg...I am so sorry to hear that you are still waiting for insurance...I will be waiting also...My dr gave me a hard time with the notes...He said it was alot of work LOL...I told him it needed to be done and I would do it if he couldn't get it done...He had it done and submitted it. GRRR

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
