Fiber requirements?

At my consultation my doc touched on the need for fiber supplements when banded. I read a handout he gave me after and benefiber was the fiber of choice. I went ahead and got started on Walgreens generic, even though I am not banded yet. I didn't measure and maybe got carried away, but omg, I have been in agony for 2 days with gas pains after. It really scared me.. I don't ever want to feel that way again. :(

Really? I wonder if the generic stuff is a bit different.

Even post banding, I eat a high fibre diet that includes wholegrain bread and such, and plenty of vegies. But I still find I need a bit of extra fibre, and I find Benefibre very gentle, I just put it into a couple of cups of coffee a day.

I wouldnt take a whole lot all at once, build up. Is it perhaps that you eat a really low fibre diet and arent used to the roughage?

I prefer FiberSure (or generic inulin fiber) for a couple of reasons. First, it stabilizes blood sugar in a way that BeneFiber and generic equivalents do not. Secondly, it is prebiotic--which means it helps promote the growth of Probiotics. Our altered bodies can use this help.

You do have to ease in gently, if your body is not accustomed to fiber supplementation. Take the dose waaaaaaaaay back. You have all the time in the world to build up to the recommended dose :(

I use the Walgreen brand - 3 heaping teaspoons every day. You do have to add it slowly if you are not used to, like any fiber additive. It wiil cause gas, bloating and pain.

Betsy, where do you get the FiberSure? I used to use inulin capsules but did not find it in dissolvable. Is what you use dissolvable? I like the inulin better.
