Laxitives is it ok to take these?

Since I am back on track with my diet I just would like to take a laxative to flush my system. Is this ok to take? Before surgery I used to take this liquid kind from walgreens. They come in different flavors like grape, cherry, ETC. Anyone still tried laxative?
