hole in band

So I have been wondering how common is it for the doc to poke a hole in the band? And if they do,do they know instantly? The reason Im wondering is my doc roots around and pokes me 2-3 times to find my port and Ive had 6 fills so far and was wondering if he did poke a hole in it would I know? I dont think he has but wow Im a self payer and can not afford for that to happen. I felt restriction the last time he put a fill in but it only lasted a couple weeks:( is this normal? I go back for another in 2 weeks.
