Trying for a baby . . ..

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are planning on trying for a baby this year (starting in a month or so's time) and although I am so excited and happy about the potential to start our family I feel like I'm really at the beginning of my weight loss journey and I'm worried about what will happen through pregnancy and then afterward. Does anyone have any advice?

Initially I got the lapband because my weight was aggravating back problems and causing me pain in my joints and was so uncomfortable - I didn't want to attempt to go through pregnancy feeling like that all the time and felt worried that after having a baby I wouldn't have the strength to be the mother that I want to be.

Now I have lost just under 25kg's and don't get regular back pain (it is rare now) and no knee or hip pain so it's a great step, as well as that my eating habits have changed, I have come to terms with a lot of the emotions that have plagued me and am actually enjoying the light exercise and stretches that are improving my core stability and improving my fitness.

I believe that I am in the same place that you are. I was banded in August, but I still have about 40 lbs to lose before I meet my goal. I know that it will not happen before pregnancy, as we are probably going to start trying in the next few months. I am scared and excited at the same time.

Oh dear, i want to have a bit of a vent.

A month or so ago I had a miscarriage - our little one was only about four weeks along so very very early, but I am still not feeling quite right. (emotionally I mean) and have been crying whenever I really stop to think about it.

I feel guilty and stupid for being so upset so early when realistically many people would not even have known that they were pregnant at the point that I miscarried, but it feels like such a huge blow.

After a week or so of feeling out of things and abandoning healthy eating or any exercise last week I started feeling good and even did a little halfhour session at the gym a few times and on other days had good walks. Then this week every morning I have had pain under my port (as if from too much pressure in my tummy) and feeling so emotional all over again.

What does this mean? I have suspected maybe I'm pregnant again but don't want to get my hopes up again. If I'm not maybe this is something else I'm just failing at. It's so upsetting and hard - why did I not expect this? I was shocked at the amount of pain that came with miscarrying but now that seems to pale with how I feel day to day and I want an outlet but feel so stupid talking about it.

My first pregnancy ended in m/c. I was beyond devestated. I was depressed and angry at the world. So I understand what you have gone through. If you are suspecting that you could be pregnant again, please see your dr.

Thank you :smile2: I will!

I am now five days late with my period and have noticed the last few days a lot of pressure and soreness in my tummy at times through the day, am running to the bathroom to wee almost all the time and feel . . i don't know, 'different'. Am going to take a pregnancy test tomorrow morning and then see the doctor if it's positive.

Wish me luck!

Thank you for the luck

The result wasn't very clear - I think I'll wait another week and then test again just to be sure!

Thank you :w00t:

Well the doctor found a positive in my urine test and is doing a blood test that I'll hear about on Monday - just to confirm how far along we are. I'm so excited!!

It's just the few days wait for formal confirmation and then we can think about when we'll tell people and all that.

I have called my surgeon and am going to go in as soon as I can to have some Fluid taken out of my band and from there start including a little more food and drink in my day for the bub

Good luck! :frown:

If you're going to be careful with your pregnancy weight gain, don't forget that on top of your own requirements, through pregnancy you really only need about an extra glass of milk, because you're not actually eating for two!

Goodness me these have been some bumpy months. The second pregnancy I had ended at 9 weeks - another early miscarriage. We just stopped trying for a month and I just had massages, did exercise and tried to make my body well again.

Now I'm waiting for my next period, which is due tomorrow. I have had pains in the last week and every day have been so tired - even being a bit dizzy some days, so have wondered if we have conceived yet again. I don't want to get too excited in case I'm not . . or in case I am and we lose it again. This is so much harder than I was ever prepared for.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
