  1. sounds to me like you are too tight. I have been to my doctors office so many times to get this thing adjusted that were on a first name basis. I know what you are describing is exactly how i felt when it was too tight. I mean I was good at 10cc then 10.5 was too much. I have a 14 cc band and I started at 306. I am currently 220 pounds. hope this helps
  2. 16 months here. was banded 9-28-10
  3. I eat very high protein. I also drink 1 protien shake a day. My goal is 125 grams of protien each day. Usually 25-30 grams of protein everytime i eat. Its important to follow a nutritionist instructions when it comes to intake. This may not be the amount you want or need, depending on your activity levels. As far as your 3oz of solid protien- Are you hungry all day? After you eat are you full? My portion sizes are what my doctor recommends. I see so many different amounts posted on here. I can only speak for what works for me. I found a very informative banded member on youtube. maybe check her out. she has hundreds of videos from food preperation to her serving size... go to youtube and search for banded wendy
  4. yeah, I am filled, I have 10cc in my 14cc band. I used to be worried that I was eating to much but after talking with my doctor and weighing and measuring my food, he is ok with this amount. basically its a cup of food, I bought the 1 cup storage containers and use these for work and such. I cant tell you that what i do is right for you. key is listen to your surgeon. Goodluck to ya and feel free to ask me any questions.
  5. well I'm almost 16 months post op and I'm still at it. I have a tough time losing more weight but I did manage to make it to 215 pounds now. My goal is around 200 pounds. Its been a ton of work, I run 2-3 miles each day and now added weight lifting. Believe it or not the adding of weight lifting has transformed so many different parts of my body and also bumped started the extra 6 pound weight lose. I've started to firm up the flabby areas. I manage4d to run my first 8k on thanks giving. That was the first time I ever ran 5 miles. I did it though. never stopped once. For anybody who here the comment "you took the easy way out", tell them oh yeah, lets go to the gym and maybe a little run, We'll show them how easy this is. For those of you wondering about my eating and exercise, here is an example of my day. Breakfast- 1 cup of either yougurt with granola or 1 cup of plain oatmeal with a teaspoon of peanutbutter or 4 hard boiled eggs minus the yolks. the key for me is 1 cup of what ever I have. no larger... snack- hand full of nuts any fruit-apple, orand, pear what ever. just small amount. Lunch- can of Tuna and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or 6 oz checken breast, steak or fish with 1/2 cup of vegetables. Snack- same as earlier snack Dinner- Pretty much the same as lunch for me. My portions are always the same. I personally still have protien shakes every day after I work out. I blend my Vitamins up in it as well. I usually work out for 30- 90 minutes each day. I focus on cardio- running. I also lift weights but not really to extreme. hope this is informative to someone.
  6. Yep, same problem that I had. complete unfill and it took 4 months to get back up to a good fill. In the mean time I gained weight and ate just like I did prior to banding. Be thankful everything is ok and this is just a little set back. I know exactly how you feel. Honestly, I am thankful I had the problem. It giave me so much more respect for the band and now I pay closer attention to not screwing this thing up. I used to think PB and vomiting was ok and just normal. now I do everything possible to make sure I dont vomit or PB. Everything will be fine. I hope this helps.

  8. Ok, new problem I have recently been having. I eat a high protein diet and very little junk food and recently I have had a few bouts with gout. Atleast thats what I believe it is. I went to my doc and he looked at and said to take antiinflamatory meds and call him if it persist. well its been around a month and i still have pain in my big toe joint. I really hate going to the docs so I have been managing it on my own. Is it likely that my weight loss caould be causing gout? I exercise everyday, drink plenty of water and have a pretty balanced diet. Any thoughts or ideas from people who have dealt with gout would be appreciated. thanks
  9. First thing I'm wondering is how big is your band and how much fluid is in it? I have a 14cc band and never really felt the satisfied feeling until I had around 10.5 cc in it. It took me a long time and a lot of adjustments to get to the correct point. I generally try to eat everything the right way. Of course I have periods of time where I fail at that. I know for a fact that if I eat heavy healthy- protein rich foods- chicken, beef, or fish I eat around 9-14 oz for that entire meal. now if I eat garbage- slippery greasy food I can eat a lot. From my own experience I had to be filled properly before the band made a difference. Talk to your doc and tell them your concerns. You might need adjustments.
  10. I was very open about it. If I could start over, I dont think I would have been so open.I just get sick of the conversation piece always being about the surgery and being watched when I eat. People assume you will eat a bite of chicken and then be full and if you eat more then (they) expected sometimes they comment..."wow you can still eat alot".... really 14 oz of food is alot? really? I also hate, that I am busting my butt working out, running, lifting, and I have had over weight friends-co workers refer to the band as the easy way out.... EASY WAY OUT? WHAT? I've never worked so hard in my life! For me personally.... I would keep a low profile.
  11. afraid so, not a fun place to be.
  12. well, That would be a great goal! I have never been a runner myself but I started on the treadmill. My knee's hips and ankles were killing me for a while. I kept at it, started out walking on the treadmill, then I would run for 30 seconds....then a minute....then 1 1/2 minutes... well I kept doing this for a while until one day I ran a mile. I just kept pushing a little more. Every week I set a new distance goal. Now when your are ready to start road running be prepared for a mental set back. I could hardly run 1/2 mile on the road my first time out. Road running is alot different then the treadmill. I suggest starting on the treadmill. Its alot more forgiving then the pounding of the road. I got motivated because my friends pushed me into running this trot. They all said I could do it.(I wasnt so sure). It was something That motivated me to try harder and train so I didnt get left behind....lol... Its one of my greatest personal accomplishments. I know anybody who is in the position I was in a year ago would also be so very proud of them selves. Set that goal, or pick a 5k run and do that! its a great experience. Good luck!
  13. Well I did it! I actually finished a 5 mile run hrough down town Buffalo. I didnt have blazing fast speed but i finished in 53 minutes, neber stopped running once. before today the most I ever ran was 3 miles. I'm pretty excited!
  14. A few months ago I was thrilled I was able to run 1 mile, well today I just finished a 5 mile run. I am so happy, Its been alot of hard work but its all paying off!
  15. hello, I guess my 1st question is when was your last adjustment. If you have lost weight and never tighten it up, that could cause it. imagine your belt that you wear for your pants. you lose weight and your belt gets loose. you then move it in one notch. well you may need to adjust the band in a "notch"...... just a thought. Try the cottage cheese test. I have lost 7-8 pounds since my last adjustment but gained muscle weight from exercise and I can feel I have lost restriction. Not a big deal, I will just have the doc add a 1/2cc when I see him in december.
  16. how did you realize you were having a problem? How did you know you were bulging again? could you feel it or was it just from the scope? I always have concerns that I may be bulging and not know it. I just assume I am loose and that is why I can eat regularly and pretty much anything.......(not a lot) but anything at all will go down with out problem as long as i eat slow and chew properly. Thanks for the post its very helpful for everyone.
  17. Only a week to go and I will be joining 13000 others running in the local ymca turkey trot. 5 mile run! I know I can run 3 miles, this 5 will be a true test for me. THANK YOU Lapland! This has been the best tool I have ever owned!
  18. not really sure it has actually come unstitched and moved but with my weight loss it is not as high as it was and it doesnt line up with my scar anymore. Its close, but not where it used to be.
  19. I agree with the above..... I would have good restriction for a while but once I lost weight it would loosen up. Kinda like adjusting your waist belt. You get smaller and you need to tighten it up.
  20. I hear ya Brother, Running my first 5 mile turkey trot on thanksgiving with 13200 other individuals. I would have never considered this before my band but now I cant wait! To bad more of us wouldn't think about posting our positives when things are good in our banded journey. I love my new life thanks to my band and my own personal hard work.
  21. I had this problem. I was devastated. I had all the fluid removed for 8 weeks and 1cc at a time (every 2 weeks) my doc slowly refilled me. I am still not as full as I was when I felt like i had ideal restriction but I am now afraid to have it that tight again. I have a 14cc band and I am currently at 10cc. I was at 11.5cc when I had the issue. I sometimes think about adding more but I am afraid It will prolapse again. At 10cc I feel restriction and it does help with not over eating but I am hungry soon after. I guess I figured its better to be a little loose and not gain weight. I put on 15 pounds when I had zero restriction. I have lost that 15, but for the last few months all weight loss has stopped. I'm ok with that as long as I can keep my band. I am 20 pounds away from my goal and I realize that I still need it. I did have a scope done and everything was ok. I need to decide if I want to tempt disaster and add more fluid or just keep fighting the snack time temptations. My doc says I will be ok to add more fluid and I shouldn't have any issues but my concern is very real, I cant afford to miss work or pay for a repair.... good luck and I hope this helps. Please keep us posted.
  22. welcome, I had my surgery done at buffalo general by DR Posner. been a little over a year and very good weight loss. good luck!
  23. EXCELLENT POST. YOU GOT IT EXACTLY RIGHT. I HAVE LIVED WHAT YOU WROTE. I TOO HAVE A 14CC BAND. IT TAKES A WHILE.
  24. hey Justin, I'm a hungry man just like you and I can tell you from experience that you are 99% most likely fine. I felt the same way and had the exact same fears. I was horrified at how much I could eat so soon after surgery. I did the best I could on eating right but had plenty of slip ups. Make sure you are doing the absolute best you can at eating correctly. Its going to take some time before you feel restriction. with my doc it took me 4 months or so and 6-7 fills. I have a 14cc band and it felt the same until I got to 8cc then I could feel it. My doc would only give me .5cc-1cc at a time. its very frustrating but normal.(bandster hell) welcome to it. YOUR FINE BUD- TRUST ME! feel free to contact me anytime. via this site
