    Left shoulder pain

Definitely walking more will help. Some say GasX strips help too, but I couldn't really tell if it did. If you have liquid pain killer, you may want to take some. I'm on day 9 now and feeling so much better. It will get better every day. Hang in there!
  2. Oh man, that is a bummer! My surgery is the same day as yours and I've been worried about getting sick too. Just keep doing what you're doing, and some people swear by zantac for shortening the duration of a cold, though I've never tried it. Hope it passes quickly!

A very interesting evening for me...

That really does sound terrible. Does anyone know how common dumping is after vsg?

    Cold Feet

That about sizes it up, doesn't it? I know I have tried just about every other way to lose weight, even lost significant amounts a couple of times only to gain it back plus more. I have proven to myself that the diet and exercise alone approach doesn't work for me. I can't afford to keep playing around with it. I'm ready to take this step and lose all my excess weight and keep if off for good. My body and my soul will benefit and I'm at peace with my decision. Thanks everybody!
  5. Hi everyone. I'm scheduled for surgery in three short weeks, Dec. 1st. and suddenly having all kinds of anxiety about the whole thing. I realize this is common, but it's keeping me awake nights. I didn't get any sleep at all last night. After going through all of the waiting, the meetings and appointments I should be happy that it's finally happening, but I just feel a sense of uneasiness and dread. I'm wondering how in the world this can be a sane thing to do! I'm afraid I'll regret getting most of my stomach cut out, and I worry there might be some long term problems that aren't known yet. I really thought I could do this, and I'm pretty surprised that I'm reacting this way. Maybe if I could get some sleep things would look different, but I don't know.
  6. Thanks! I did get my approval yesterday, sparking a whole new level of excitement and anxiety! Best of luck to you with your upcoming surgery.

    Cold Feet

Hey, thanks everybody for your encouragement! I took a nice nap, and am definitely feeling better. It's crazy, I've done all I can think of to do to prepare, and most of the time I'm just so grateful that I have the opportunity to get this surgery. It's the niggling self-doubts and anxiety that will creep in sometimes in the wee hours that I'm battling right now. Whew, I hope I can just keep my head on straight for the next few weeks! I'm so glad to be able to vent to folks who are or have been where I'm at. Thanks a lot!

    Any December Sleevers?

Well, I got busy this week and I stocked up on soups, sf pudding, protein shakes, chewable vitamins and bought a recliner. I get really nervous if I don't keep myself busy. My surgery date is Dec. 1st, pending insurance approval, which I expect to get. Everything was submitted last week, and when approval comes through I have my final pre-op mtg. with my surgeon, any tests he wants to do and a tour of the surgery center. I know when I get ins. approval it will really make it real! I just want to get this over with, the anxiety is no fun! I'm happy to have contact with others who are having their surgery around the same time.

    Cindy's Story

I can relate. I'm a single mom, and the only people I've told about my surgery are my teenage children. I know they're apprehensive about the surgery, and I've talked to them about it and all that I've learned about it in my research. My surgery is Dec. 1st and it's all I can think about! I just want to tell you that I think you're doing something great for yourself and your family. They'll come to see that in time.
  11. This is the part that really gets my blood boiling! "But ... I think obesity is something that most people have a ton of control over. It's something they can change, if only they put their minds to it. (I'm happy to give you some nutrition and fitness suggestions if you need them — but long story short, eat more fresh and unprocessed foods, read labels and avoid foods with any kind of processed sweetener in them whether it's cane sugar or high fructose corn syrup, increase the amount of Fiber you're getting, get some kind of exercise for 30 minutes at least five times a week, and do everything you can to stand up more — even while using your computer — and walk more. I admit that there's plenty that makes slimming down tough, but YOU CAN DO IT! Trust me. It will take some time, but you'll also feel so good, physically and emotionally. A nutritionist or personal trainer will help — and if you can't afford one, visit your local YMCA for some advice.)"
  12. I just want to thank everybody for your posts. This is exactly what I needed tonight. I'm about 5 wks. away from having surgery, and I'm so up and down in emotions about the whole thing. I need to read these positive experiences to remind myself that this is the right thing for me to do.
