Odee reacted to JerzyGirl in September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?I'm amazed at how different each surgeon's requirements are. I'm scheduled for surgery this Wednesday and I've not had to do a lot of the things that I see others writing about. The only thing I have to do is be on a clear liquid diet tomorrow and take a Levaquin pill, as well as shower right before I leave for the hospital and wash really well with anti-bacterial soap. I didn't have any extended pre-op diet nor do I have to drink magnesium citrate. I wonder why things are so different for each surgeon?
Anyway, for everyone who has surgery this week...you're in my thoughts and prayers and I hope everything goes smoothly for each of you!
And if you have access to an eye mask and ear plugs, they certainly help with getting some much needed rest in the hospital!!

Odee reacted to shuhnaynuh in September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?I was told to bring Mylicon drops if you cant do gas x (I'm bringing both!)... I'm mag citrate right now and I can barely stomach it-- it's horrible!! Wish I'd been on liquids now lol I'm also a nervous wreck! Hoping I chill out soon haha

Odee reacted to Jenn31MA in September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?i was told that those did nothing since the gas is around our organs and not IN the organs. the Gas X only helps that and not the gas they put into our bodies...if that makes sense??

Odee reacted to Jenn31MA in September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?The only thing i do have to do is wash my tummy 2 times a day today and tomorrow and then once on Wednesday with this hexaclense stuff. It basically just kills any germs and helps prevent any infections. I have to call tomorrow to get my time for the surgery and its really hitting me now. For those of you going in tomorrow....see you on the losers bench!!

Odee reacted to anonteensleeve in September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?I had my surgery in Thursday, all I took to the hospital was my phone lol.... The day before surgery was just a regular day, I didn't even feel like I was getting surgery it was really odd... Goodluck to you! My pain only lasted a few days and I'm heading back to school tomorrow!

Odee got a reaction from billyvmom in September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?Thank for reminding me about the phone charger! Doy! My brain is not functioning right today. A lot of anxiety.
Those of you that don't have to drink the citrate, you are LUCKY. This stuff was nasty and leaves a horrible after taste. My stomach is hurting something fierce right now.
Tomorrow is the big day ! Woot Woot !

Odee reacted to Jenn31MA in September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?My surgery is on the 5th and i was not given the magnesium citrate...thank god! haha I think the two week liquid diet cleaned me out enough. Today since i had the day off i cleaned my whole apt, did all my laundry and made sure i had everything ill need for when i get back. Tomorrow ill go to work and i was told just full liquids all day (already doing this) and then Clear Liquids from midnight until 2 hours before my surgery. I call tomorrow to get the time...im starting to get nervous!!
What is everyone bringing with them to the hospital? I was told no valuables but i was going to bring a book, my phone, couple pairs of undies, brush, face wipes and thats about it. They will make me wear the gown thing and provide everything else so i figure the less i bring the better! Plus i hope to get released the next day so I do not need to spend two nights.

Today I am doing the first day of my all liquid diet and watching a NCIS marathon on USA since I had today off from work. Tomorrow I am going to work, and when I come home take my laxative and just chill and get ready for Wednesday.

Odee reacted to FatBastard79 in 2 Month Post Op Before And AfterToday is exactly two months post surgery. This morning I was down to 297 from 384. Total of 87 pounds lost so far. Eating nothing but Protein and small portions. Exercising on the elliptical an hour a day and then doing some light weight training and 100 situps a day. Best decision I ever made. Wish I would have done this 10
Yrs ago!

Odee reacted to ShannonK in 2 Months Post OpYou can check out my signature below to see how I am doing...pretty good I think! I have not been able to start any exercise yet (I had PLANNED on walking daily as well as a free areobics class offered at my school) - but I have a very bad knee! I had hoped the weight loss would have helped improved this problem, but I was dancing in the sand at the beach in June, and reinjured an already bonky knee. I have already had surgery on it once - and it is very frustrating. I am going to go to the doctor this week - hope to get some relief!
Anyway - at 2 months out, I pretty much CAN eat whatever I want, so there is definetly the need for making good choices. I am back at work now - (I am a teacher) - and the regular schedule is helpful. I try to get my prottein in, and limit my carbs! A typical day for me is a greek yogurt for Breakfast (15g protein), a tuna kit for lunch with only 3 of the crackers (19g protein), a string cheese for snack (4g protein), then Protein and veggie for dinner....I am loving Boarshead Bratwurst (18g protein) or Turrkey meatballs. I also LOVE shrimp and fish - so I have a lot of choices.....
Going out is still a little of a challenge - my family went to a chinese buffet - and I ate some chicken and broccoli, a few spicy shrimp and one crab ragoon. ABout 4-5 oz total......I was stuffed! WAY different that what I used to eat! Had about 1/3 of an omelet at Ihop the other day - the spinach, mushroom cheese one - yummy! My friend ate the rest!
I DO struggle to get liquids in - and I make myself drink at least ONE G2 gatorade each day - I think that helps. I take a sublingual b12 once a day and a Multivitamin.....I sometimes forget, but do good most of the time.
I started this journey in tight 22/24 clothes - I am now in an 18. This weekend I cleaned out my closet - and it was amazing to try on some old favorites and have them HANG on me. New underwear are in my future! I have lost over 27 inches all around (neck, waist, thighs, arms) and am looking forward to more.
This surgery can seem so sureal. I never imagined I would wear an 18 again. I did not think it would work for me. I am making good food choices and I am ot starving. I feel good (except for the dang knee) and am so glad I chose this for myself. Prior to the surgery, I would get on this forum and read everyone's experiences - so I wanted to make sure and add mine. I am not on here near as much as before due to work - but if anyone has any questions - I will answer them as I check back in.
God Bless!

Odee reacted to Catracks in Why I Will Never Eat Certain Foods Again (Binging)Binging for me is a horribly scary, out of control feeling. It was before the sleeve and is more so now. I have binged twice - each time with chips. I liken my reaction to one bite of potato chips and onion dip to Gollum and the Ring. I can see how I might eat around it and go right back to where I started from: A 5'1" woman on her way to 300 pounds and DEATH!
I hate to get all serious on you guys, but I think I was close to death. I couldn't breathe, couldn't sleep and I was starting to feel sick ALL the time. I could not stay awake driving or at work. food wasn't even enjoyable, but I'd still stuff my face. I became a recluse. I would send my husband to get-togethers alone. I would hardly go camping anymore or even for a walk.
I don't know what would have failed first: My marriage or me.
I became diabetic. I had sleep apnea so badly that I literally woke up once every 10 seconds. Doesn't sound possible does it? My doctor was checking for cirrhosis of the liver due to fatty liver disease. My knees were giving out. My blood pressure was through the roof as was my cholesterol.
Well, I got sleeved and withing two weeks my blood sugar was normal. Three months and 58 pounds down my A1C (anther glucose level test) was normal as was everything else including my blood pressure. My sleep apnea disappeared.
Here I am 7 months later. I am 30 pounds from goal. I wear a bathing suit. I hike up mountains and paddle my kayak. I ride my friends horse without killing it. I slide effortlessly into any booth or amusement park ride.
Next year I'm hiking half-dome and around Tuolumne Meadows and the Yosemite Valley, I am going on a raft trip down the Colorado River, I'm taking a mule down to Phantom Ranch (if I can get a reservation that is!) I might even go to Maui this November.
My husband and I are doing wonderfully and will renew our vows in October. I am now two sizes smaller than my wedding dress.
Why would I sacrifice all that for a slab of macaroni and cheese or cake or chips? With me, there is just no control with some things. If I cannot make or find a good substitute then I don't touch it.
Before I got sleeved, I found a website called: The World According to Eggface.
She is my height and was over 300 pounds. Today she is a total knockout. Get her recipes. She taught me that I didn't have to deprive myself. She showed me that I could make healthier versions of pizza, lasagna and snack foods - even doughnuts and ice cream. She can also make a Protein shake that tastes like it came from Starbucks- but with more flavors.
I just thought I'd post my feeling about moderation vs. abstinence from certain foods. This is what works for me. Thank goodness I love meat, seafood, cheese, dairy, vegetables, legumes, fruits and nuts because those are the mainstays of my diet. I'm far from suffering. I had a taste of my daughter's ice cream and cake and the sugar made me sick in a minute.
Again, this is what works for me. I'm not trading all I have now for food. No way!
Thanks for reading and God Bless your journey.
