Bariatric journey Multiple procedures Since 2023 Preparing for surgery

  1. I agree 110% Paige... there's pretty much nothing that can talk me out of doing this now... I'll deal with the penny pinching and things being tighter, I'm okay with that. I just want to be happy again.
  2. Hi Sheri and ACalvin - thanks for the support! lol I had just been thinking that in my head after reading about all the lucky ones that have good insurance that I had to vent! I am putting half on a credit card and the other half paying cash - that's why I am having to wait until January - after tax returns! I wish you both all the best in your weight loss journey!
  3. I hate all of you that got your surgery covered by insurance!! lol  I have a good job, I make decent money ($100 of which comes out of EACH paycheck for my CRAPPY insurance!) and yet there of course is a exclusion clause in our healthcare plan for WLS. I think it's SO WRONG that insurance providers are able to do this to people that NEED this for their health! So now I'm forced to put myself in a big hole of debt that I really can't afford in the first place, just to help myself be healthy..... Makes me so mad... :wink5: I'm jealous of all of you that had your surgery covered! You're lucky!
  4. really late posting here - but I did call... wasn't just on the website! thanks though!
  5. So true! Maybe down the road I'll be able to afford a revision and get the sleeve - a girl can dream, right?? lol
  6. I just saw that your surgery is today!! Good luck!! I wish you the best on your journey!!
  7. Hi Buchannon - I am planning to have my band surgery in Mexico in January. I've done a lot of research myself and feel pretty good about it. Being self-pay I've had to save up the $ - was supposed to originally go in September but that fell through. I wish you the best of luck. If you can afford the sleeve, I'd do it. It's just not in my capabilities to do the sleeve right now. Maybe in the future, idk. You don't have "much" to loose though compared to alot of people that get the band so I'd imagine it would still be a good avenue for you? Idk I'm obviously not a doc! lol Whatever makes you happy!
  8. I've left two messages and send two "info requests" over their website with no response. This has been over a span of 3 weeks.... what gives?? Is there a special password to gain access?? Pretty unprofessional and such a turn off as a potential patient!! :tongue2:

  10. Hey guys - I haven't forgot about you all! Just having a rough couple days. Will check in tomorrow and catch up.
  11. No, but I would love to be from somewhere with Beaver in the city name! lol Beavertown, Tx. That would be awesome. :smile2: Welcome! When's your surgery date?
  12. PS - I am sorry I spelled your name with an H instead of Sara.....
  13. Hey Sarah, Overweight and Ally! Welcome! Yep Ally, we can see your message! lol You'll have to give us all an inside look into the process of the banding procedure overseas - I am sure they do some things differently (especially the stones thing, I don't get it... I will have to learn the conversion....). Sarah - I think your thoughts are SO normal.... I grew up very athletic, did 3-4 sports at at time, was still athletic thru most of college - but even when I was playing sports and exercising constantly, I was STILL "dieting" aka starving myself, etc. While planning this process I've thought, "what's wrong with me? Why am I paying all this money? Why can't I just do it like everyone else and just exercise and diet??". Well, that's because I'm not LIKE everybody else! I've come to realize that.... and I need to make a drastic change... I've been fighting this my whole life and I am exhausted... I don't want to be sick and tired of being sick and tired anymore.... I want a new, weight-worry-free life and I am hoping the band is my first step towards that. GOOD FOR YOU though for doing that bootcamp! Those things are NOT EASY!!!
  14. Can't you take Immodium or something for that?? I feel bad for ya'll... my doc doesn't have a pre-op diet - just nothing after 9pm the night before... :smile2:
  15. I LOVE that - is it Swedish or something? Girl! LA?! Okay, you're officially the big city girl out of all of us! lol My name is Trisha - in case I forgot to mention (the h is silent...) lol :smile2:
  16. You too Ally!! :smile2:
  17. angel! come over to our thread we've already started! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f84/any-september-2010-bandsters-out-there-120022/ Bunch more Sept bandsters! :smile2: Rep-post your story over there, I am sure we all can relate! CONGRATS on your surgery date!! WOO!
  18. We will have to think of something babyk!! What's your name and where are you from? I am excited for you!!!:smile2:
  19. Well, honestly I didn't have "fuzzie" feelings (for lack of a better term, lol) from the get-go. I felt very rushed through my consult - he spent maybe a whole 10 mins w me - I even had a list of questions I wanted answered that I didn't get done with because he kept trying to wrap it up. He didn't even ask about my weight history, if I was having any problems because of it, NOTHING... very inpersonal... which is fine, I don't expect my doctor to be Mr. Personality... maybe it was just a rushed day, I don't know. My appointment was at 1 and they didn't take me back until 2 o'clock, even though I was the very first person there in the waiting room (arrived at 12:30) when they opened back up after lunch - they actually took back about 6 people in front of me that arrived AFTER me... I grew up in medical offices, my mother was a Pratice Manager for many years - and this is just poor office management IMO. On the other hand - his help was really great - they seemed compassionate and honestly concered. My co-worker has nothing but good things to say about them. Maybe I just had a bad experience, idk. I don't want to slam anyone or any doc's practice. :smile2: He's obviously more than qualified, experience wise. I just chose Monterrey because of the awesome reviews former patients have given me of the hospitals and services - and #1 was the price... can't beat it with a stick, especially since I am self pay!!
  20. I have CIGNA open access plus as well but of COURSE our companies policy has an exclusion....:smile2:
  21. lacrecia - I originally was going to him as well - had my surgery scheduled for the end of this month, till I got some advice and decided on Monterrey! One of my coworkers is a patient of his - she's lost 90 lbs or so.
  22. Ok, question here - what exactly is a hernia? What causes it? What are the symptoms?
  23. Thanks mskitten - I've decided to go the cc route. I didn't feel right w that program as I read over the papers, my gut feeling was a red flag for me!
  24. Hi ahl - how exciting, your band day's gonna be here before you know it - are you insurance or self pay? Where are you located?
  25. Ya I posted over there and no one responded... Which is cool, we gotta good group goin here too! Best of luck to you danide! Didn't I read that you tried to get insurance approval but ended up your m&d are helping out? (Trying to keep everyone straight, if I confused you for another I'm sorry!!) Phershey - thanks for the tip! I got it now! Lol no more searching! Pooky - thanks for the bbm add - looking forward to chatting more later! :frown:
