After living life as a fat person for 56 years, I suddenly found myself with enough cash to fund a surgery I felt would help me keep weight down to a comfortable level. Insurance refused to pay for it . I paid $17,000.00 total for surgery , preop testing , labs, etc. My surgeon did a fine job, but was not encouraging or uplifting post op. He was impatient and abrupt when trying to access the port and subsequent visits thereafter. His NP was a thin woman who knew her theory, but whose office looked like a bomb went off in it and had no clue what it meant to be obese all your life.     I lost a good deal of the 60 lbs. just before surgery on the liquid diet for 10 days, plus I got a virus at the time. Then the immediate month after surgery I lost rapidly due to liquid diet. I have struggled since then to lose a total of 60 lbs and since the last fill a year ago-7.5ml out of 15ml band, I hurt 75% of the time trying to digest foods that just won't go down. I am planning on getting 1-2 ml removed to see if I can eat better because there aren't enough enzymes in the upper pouch to break down proteins and the opening is so small they won't slide down--sooo, I either vomit to relieve the chest/backheadache pain or not eat much proteins at all!! The very foods that make you fat are the only ones that don't hurt me to eat--so I'm hoping reducing the band's tightness will help. I just wanted something to help me feel full quick and reduce my intake, but didn't hear about all this pain!
