  1. I had lost 5 pounds and went for another fill, the doctor put in another cc for a total of 9 and a half cc in a 14 cc band. After this fill i noticed water going down slowly, and every time i would take the first few bites i would feel pain when the food went down. I also got stuck more frequently after the fill. I am wondering if the band was too tight. I would like to hear from others who have had the same experience. How do you know if it is too much fill? Is it normal to feel pain when the food goes down, especially if the food is not chewed thoroughly? I did go back to the doctor and had the 1 cc removed, but i lost my restriction. However it does not hurt to swallow food anymore.
  2. I had 91/2 cc in a 14 cc band, if i did not chew my food thoroughly and take small bites, i would get stuck, and have to wait approx an hour before food went down. I had to have 1cc removed because i would get stuck on a large pill i had to take for diabetes. During this time i did not loose any weight because i would eat foods that were easy to go down, ie starches, rice, potatoes. I finally decided to control my blood sugars by going on a high protein low carb diet, the doctor changed my medications, so now i am taking smaller pills, and i am going back Tuesday to have the 1cc put back in. I had to re-group, and refocus back to following the rules for diet and eating, and now i am bound and determined to stick to the recommended diet regimen so i can loose my weight and get to my goal. I am a car addict and realize that i have to eliminate it from my diet in order to be succesful.
  3. Hi Guys, I was banded on aug 2010. I lost 20 pounds, and regained 4 pounds. I am so discouraged with myself, because i lost control of my eating over thanksgiving and Christmas. I need to loose 30 pounds to get to my goal, and somehow i have lost my way. To top it off i have diabetes, and instead of improving my blood sugar, i have gotten worse, and now need additional medication to control my blood sugar. I feel like a failure, and need to regroup and get back on track I am glad that i found this thread because now i dont feel like i am the only one with this problem. Hopefully we can support each other.
  4. I am 2 months post op. I got a 4th fill last Tuesday. Now when i eat about 2 bites i feel like i am stuck. The food does go down, and i have to concentrate on small bites and waiting in between bites. After that stuck feeling passes, i can eat a few more bites. I am just wondering if i got to much fill this time. It is harder to eat now, than before my last fill. Should i be experiencing that pressure or stuck feeling?
  5. I was 46 pounds overweight, but i had diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension. I received flak from my husband, daughter and best friend. They argued that i could do this without surgery. I did loose many times, but gained it back. These people did not know how i felt, and that if i did not do something i was going to die an early death. Unless they are walking in your shoes, and have the co-morbidities, they cannot appreciate your decision for surgery. Incidentally i found it interesting that all these people against my decision, were overweight. But they insisted that i could loose weight without the lapband.
  6. I went in to see my doc for my third fill last tuesday the 21. I had my surgery Aug 9, and lost 13 pounds of which i gained back 3 pounds and was hanging on to it since my third week post op. My doctor told me that i was not loosing because i was eating carbs, ie. bread and potatoes. So i took his suggestion and stopped the carbs and promptly lost 3 pounds in the last 4 days. I was in shock! Also i have been feeling some restriction finally. I eat till satisfied then i stop. So far all i am eating is chicken, fish, meat and vegies. I am eliminating all high glycemic vegies. I can honestly say that for the first time i am not hungry, and i have to force myself to eat 3 meals a day. This for me is a miracle. I was getting so discouraged after the surgery, i felt i would never get out of bandster hell. I want to encourage every new bandster out there that your time will come soon. I had to get rid of the idea that all i needed was the lap band to loose the weight, without having to do any of the work myself. I now realize that i have to diet and exercise and give up those foods that give me instant gratification.
  7. Thanks for your support!

    Diarrhea OMG!!

I had diarrhea post op also. I took a car trip to the keys and it happened on the drive. I was humiliated and embarrased. So i went to the drug store and bought immodium. I took 2 pills and never had diarrhea again. As a matter of fact i had to take milk of magnesia later on, it worked so well.
  9. Somehow i thought that i would never have to diet again after lap band surgery. I am 3 and a half weeks post op, i lost 11 pounds and gained back 3 pounds. I did not follow the mushy diet because i was so hungry at 2 weeks that i ate and tolerated a regular diet. I am a bad carb addict, and find myself regressing back to old bad habits. Today i went for my second fill, i now have 7 ccs in my lapband, and still i do not have good restriction like immediately post op. I am getting so discouraged because i am not complying to diet recommendations from my doc. Why am i self sabotaging? Especially after i paid good money for the surgery. Has anyone gone through this, and how did you overcome???? I need help!
  10. Thanks everyone for your help. I need to re-group and concentrate on low carb high protien diet.
  11. I am 3 weeks post op, and i got my second fill today. i have a total of 7 cc now. I sure hope that i will see restriction now, because i have not felt it for 2 weeks.
  12. Sorry, since i am a new bandster, i am not familiar with the abbreviations. Can some one clarify for me.

    The Wagon...

I too am having the same problem. Somehow i thought that if i got the lapband, i would not have to diet again. I am so angry with myself because i have gone back to pre surgery eating habits. After my surgery i had great restriction for two weeks, then all of the sudden i was hungry and could eat without restriction. My surgery was 3 weeks ago. I lost 11 pounds and have gained back 3 pounds. Today i went for my second fill, i now have a total of 7 ccs in my band. some how i have to find the will to get back on my diet again. I am a carb addict and i know this is my downfall. how can i stop self sabotaging and get back on the wagon again?
  15. Have you tried the low carb diet. My doc explained it to me and it makes sense. If you avoid carbs, your body burns fat because it does not have the carbs to burn for energy. Try eating proteins and low carb vegies. Keep the carbs to 40 gms a day. The atkins book is a good resource for low carb high protein diet.
  16. I had surgery Aug 9, exactly 2 weeks and 1 day ago. I was feeling restriction untill last Sunday, when i was able to eat alot more without restriction. I went for my first fill today and the doctor put in 2 ccs. I was supposed to be on liquids after, but i did not comply, because i was hungry, so i ate soft foods. I still do not have any restriction and i can eat several cups of food easily. I am very discouraged. I also gained back 3 pounds. Has anyone experienced this? I need some encouragement.

    swelling

My swelling went down in a week and a half to 2 weeks. Good luck with your band.
  18. I took the pain med for 7 days. I had quite a bit of discomfort at my belly button site. But after 7 days i did not need it any more. the pain had improved.
  19. I am 1 week and 1 day post op. I notice that every time i have soup or protein shake i get this pain on the left side under my ribs, and it only occurs with the shakes and soup. what could this be? I notice that if i lie on my left side it gets better. Does any one else experience this?
  20. I am on post op day 3 and i have not had a bowel movement since the day before surgery. I am considering taking a laxative and would like to hear from any one with this problem and what you did. I guess i will call the doctor tomorrow.
  21. For those of you complaining of feeling cold, go get your thyroid checked. Feeling cold is a symptom of hypothyroid.

    Still having pain!

I was banded Aug. 9 also. I still have some soreness, however it is much better since the surgery. I can change positions in bed alot easier now. I do experience some pain when i stand up, but it is improving.
  23. I have been making soups and blending them for myself. I make sure the ingredients are low carb and high protein. Just use your imagination. Just about anything that you cooked prior to band surgery can be pureed. Just keep out the carbs.
  24. I am post op day 2. The most uncomfortable problem for me today is that i am experiencing burps that dont come out. I would feel better if i could burp. Anyone having this problem?
  25. I had a bmi of 29.1. I had diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension. I decided to get the lap band, my insurance would not pay, so i am paying for my surgery. This is post op day 2. The scale shows that i have gained weight despite the liquid diet of 1 week. I guess it is mostly post op bloating. Plus i had some very salty broths when i was on clear liquid. I will keep you posted.
