It Has Been Over A Year!

I was checking out my blogs and noticed that I haven't been on here since last year! I pretty much ignored the site because I was feeling very discouraged. My weight loss has been slow . One year later I am proud to say that I have lost 51 pounds! WOW. This year has been busy though. I quit my job and went back to school to futher my Nursing degree. All online with a 3 year old at home. It has be fun and stressful at the same time. Working out also has its ups and downs. I enjoy it but find reasons not to do it. Funny huh! My thyroid has been good. Still taking 175mcg a day. I really struggle to stay hydrated. I feel like I have lost my thirst cue. Wearing smaller clothes is a fantastic feeling. I am finally the weight I was before I got pregnant. Now my weight goal doesn't seem so unreachable. 35 more pounds! I am not looking to be skinny mini. I don't need to be a size 2. Realistically, a size 10 would be really nice! I am sure that I am going to need some plastic surgery because my boobs are like pancakes, my tummy is all wrinkled and I have a lot of loose skin between my thighs. I guess the slow weight loss is a good thing in my circumstance. I really need to plan my eating for the day...if I don't I find that I am not getting enough protein in. Things that are surprising me: tingly feeling in the roof of my mouth and sometimes my band feels so tight that I am not hungry at all for days then bang I am super hungry but of course can't eat a whole lot. Thank God! I have had to start on some acidophilus due to an abundance of yeast. It works really well . Hopefully the next time I check in here I will have a futher weight loss. My short term goal is 10 pounds by Christmas. I will be sure to share the news as it happens. I have found that reading other blogs helps me at times but it also makes me feel that I should be closer to my goal. I know comparing with others is not good but it is hard not to. So for now I will log on minimally and enjoy my journey as it is. Thanks all for your support! It is wonderful to hear the " Wow, I had to take a second look to see if it was really you!" Cheers!
  2. Hey...how are you doing? Hope all is well.

  3. I am down over 50 pounds!!! It is slow but well worth it!

    Pins & Needles sensation

Funny...I thought it was just in my mind! I get it too! It is not an allergy. Not sure what it is. It usually only happens to me in the morning. Wierd!

    Trying hard not to Compare

Okay here it goes..... I have been avoiding the computer and this site because I really didn't want to hear how everyone else has lost so much already. Man, it gets frustrating when I see people losing such huge amounts and I am in single digits still. Last week I had my second fill. I am now at 3.5cc of a 5cc band. I finally feel some restriction. Not mysweet spot, but it sure feels nice not to eat so much. I have bumped up my workouts to 3-4x a week. I was so happy to hear that I did lose 5 lbs since my first fill three weeks ago! I am going to try to drink more water now and start putting my focus somewhere other than in the house on my bottom , thinking about food and what I can eat next. I have an amazing support group that I work out with that is keeping me motivated. Last night I hung out in the shop with my Husband and we did projects side by side. He voiced that he was happy that I came out. I was too! I was afraid of failing and actually expected to see a gain when I step on the scale....it didn't happen. !!! I will now focus on me and try really hard not to compare. It is my journey. C U all later. I am off to the gym:thumbup:
  6. Thanks for the good thoughts today.

I was truly afraid of failure and somewhat expected it so when I finally stepped on the scale I was astounded to see a loss.

I haven't really told anyone that I had the Lap Band because I wanted it to be my thing....I of course shared it with my family and close friends.

Hope you are doing well too. Your date is coming soon!

    Take care and thanks again!

    Jenn

Now that I feel some restriction it it truly a motivator to work harder with my body. How wonderful it feels to walk away from lunch full and only eating a few crackers, some tuna and cheese and a bit of tomato!

    Trying hard not to Compare

Thanks for the good thoughts! I had a good work out and a great (small lunch) with friends. I am working on finishing 50oz of water as I write this. Thanks for the extra motivation today! I'll think I will be checking in more often now.
  8. Okay here it goes.... I was so excited to get my first fill that the 3hr drive didn't even phase me! I guess I had unreal expectations because I have been so hungry lately ,that I would be full after a few bites. Well I was wrong. I still get my daily protein in with no problems because I can eat more than a cup. I try to stop. Sometimes I eat a cup of food then wait 30min drink and wait till I can eat again in 3hrs. I work out 3x a week and I am ready to bump up to 4x week. I guess I was just hoping that I wouln't be so hungry. I go in for my next fill in 3 weeks. Frustration has built up so bad. I hear about so many that have lost so much already and I am afraid to step on the scale. I just don't want to see poor results.
  9. I had my first fill today 1.7cc

I had it done at Weight loss Surgical Center in Overland Park on 135th St.

They were nice but I waited over an hour to be seen after driving 3 hours. Oh well.

I feel okay. A little tired though!

  10. Hi there Kansans!

I live in SE Kansas and had my first fill in Overland Park today.

    All went well.

I will be back up there in 4 weeks. It is a 3hr drive for me but worth every minute!

How do you eat an elephant???

Good response. I too am new at this and getting my first fill today. I broke my goals into vacation planning. By Vegas I hope to lose 20lbs...wearing size 16 By Ski season 40lbs and wearing size 14 By Canada next year 60 lbs and wearing size 12 After that anything goes till I reach my 80-90lb goal! I had similar problems during my pregnancy. I was on hormones and gained over 65lbs and I dropped 20 immediately then went into hypothyroidism and gained it all back! Crazy. I need little goals to reach the big one. I can't wait till I am out of size 18 forever!!! Good luck and I will be thinking of that Elephant during our ride down!!! Take care
  12. Good to here from you.

I am feeling great. Hungry but great. All incisions healed.

Excited for my fill in the AM.

I am going to travel to Kansas City ..3hr drive. Not bad. I can go to a place 1hr away but they don't do Fluoro.

I was really surprised on how professional the Mexican hospital was.

Do you have anyone that can speak spanish for you? It would help but not necessary. Usually the Doctors can deal with most of the communication.

The gas pains are the worst. Be sure to stock pile on GasX.

You might consider finding a cheap flight from home and fly for your fills. It may be better than the 8hr drive and hotel.

My sister lives in Edmonton and came down here for some Lipo and laser surgery. A little cheaper but mainly a faster consult and surgery date. 1 week apart! We are planning a Lasik date in Edmonton next year.

    After that teeth whitening.

I think we will be done then. After that , we will celebrate!

Good luck. I would love to hear your updates

  13. Hello fellow Canadian nurse! And 40 too!

I went to Mexico and had a very positive experience in Monterry.

The follow all the same rules in the hospital. You may be surprised with some of the older techniques like no TED hose or SCD's but ACE bandages but other than that I saw no difference. They did have mini bottles instead of mini bags.

Privare message me if you have any questions!

  14. I agree, beautiful family.

Hope the gas pains are better.

I go in for my first fill tomorrow. Pretty excited!

    My First Blog Ever

Well, I finally decided to document my journey. I was banded on June 10th. It was the best decision I have made to help me rid of these awful pounds that have been my stedfast enemy for 15 years! I am a Nurse and I have always felt awful giving my patients advice when I am so overweight. I believe that my weightloss will allow me to be a better nurse. I have cheated on my post op diet already because I have had the worst diarrhea along with a yeast infection. I have had toast, bananas, peaches and eggs. I had my surgery in Mexico and now I need to book my first fill in Kansas City area. I tried one Dr. and his first appt. is in October...I can't wait that long! I left a message with another clinic...fingers crossed. My incisions are healing well. I have one area where a stitch is poking out , so I will trim it this afternoon. The diarrhea is much better but the yeast is not. (I had this problem when I went on the Atkins diet...something related to the protein. ) My family is so supportive. I really don't want to disappoint them.

    My First Blog Ever

Well I found a clinic in Kansas City. First fill. 400 bucks then 250 each fill afterwards. I go in June 22nd at noon. I do admit I am pretty excited. I have been pretty hungry lately and have been eating some bad stuff...sweets and FF. I have up-ed my exercise to 3 times a week and started some weights this week. I feel great. I had my 40th Birthday on the 19th and I really feel that I am going to have an amazing year. My incisions have all healed well. My yeast infections are gone. I have way more energy than before and I don't sleep in!!! I hope my positive attitude will help me attain good results. I am getting ready to start planning our family vacation skiing and I am hoping to be a lot lighter on my skis. Last year my knees really hurt. I have had a hard time coming up with good strong burps...just small ones that trickle up and a few good ones. Sometimes they hurt where the band is. That is it for now . I will update after the 1st fill.

  21. June 10th was my BAND Date.

  22. Hi there

I too had my band in June. June 10th.

I am 39 though from your neighboring state Kansas!

I am doing okay except for the bloating/gas pains that like to shoot up to my left shoulder.

I am eating smoothies and soups and doing pretty good. I did make a really runny cream of wheat that has helped with the diarrhea.

    How are you doing?
