  1. Iam 5 weeks out from my surgery. I also went through the heightened sense of smell after surgery. It drove me CRAZY!! I hated it! I guess it took about 3 weeks for my nose to get back to normal. So glad for it too! Your smeller will hopefully become less sensitive soon as well.Good luck! Hang in there!
  2. I agree with Meggiep. The sleeve is only a tool. We still need to count calories, carbs, protein, and make sure we exercise. It is imperative we make sure we get enough protein and water in daily. I know counting calories is tedious but it may really help you figure out why you are gaining weight. I am one month out and have lost 30lb.s. I write down EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth every day and it has been my saving grace. You might be surprised what you find. Anyway, good luck and I hope you start losing again! :-)
  3. Super duper job sister!!!!!! I knew you could do it! Hang in there you're doing wonderful! Woohoo!
  4. iI had my sleeve done through alighterme.com"s Dr.Ramos Kelly. 3/15/11 and I must say I had a great experience down there. I totally trust him and felt very confident in my choice long before I even met him. When I DID meet him, I knew I had made the right decision. He has a caring bedside manner and will answer any questions you may have. His calm demeanor puts you at ease right away. I'm glad I chose him for my surgery and I would do it again in a heartbeat! If you have any questions I can help with, please send me a message. Good Luck!
  5. I took 3 weeks off total. One week for the surgery down in Mexico(4 days) and 2 weeks at home recuperating. My first day back to work was somewhat tiring but by the 2nd-3rd day I ws feeling pretty normal. I'm a Health unti coordinator and CNA2 at a hospital and my job can be strenuous. But I personally did well. 3 weeks was good for me. good luck!
  6. I was sleeved by Dr.Kelly March 15,2011. I had one leak test the 17th,the day I got out of the hospital and went to the hotel.(A very NICE 5 star hotel). He gives a copy of the test on an xray film to take with you for your own records.(Which I thought was pretty cool). I personally wasn't offered something for nerves, but another lady there getting surgery the same day asked for something and they did indeed give it to her. I had a rough time coming out of anesthesia (pain and nausea)but that's just me. The nurses and doctor did a fabulous job of getting my pain and nausea under control and were always 'johnny on the spot' with it the rest of my time there as well. I have nothing but great things to say about Dr.Kelly and his staff,nurses,...everyone I encountered down there. I would go back for medical treatment ANYTIME. I had the utmost confidence in Dr.Kelly and I always felt comfortable with him (after the initial surgery jitters). My experience was a great one and I hope your will be too! Good luck!
  7. I get a feeling in chest just below the sternum. It is almost like the sleeve has filled to the top and the food is sitting at the entrance and one more bite after that feeling of pressure hits and it will be a world of uncomfortable and most likely vomiting. That's exactly what I feel too! Like the food is "stacking up" at the bottom of my esophagus. Is that normal? I too have a hard time distinguishing the feeling of being "full" in my stomach...unless the :stacked up" feeling I'm getting is indeed that. But I don't think it is. Not easy gettign to know this new tummy! Hope it gets easier!
  8. Actually, I was at the same hospital (at the same time)and asked for a safety pin because I got tired of carrying the drain everywhere I went along with the iv pole, and they could not provide me with one. I know it sounds weird and I suppose I could've asked around a little more, but it really would have saved me some aggravation! I'm not putting down the hospital, it was very clean, nice and the nurses (and doctors) were more than on top of their game with my pain and nausea medicines! I would not hesitate to go back in an instant! ( I would just be sure to bring a darn safety pin! Lol)
  9. Have you talked to Dr.Alvarez about it? Perhaps he can give you some better insight since he did your original sleeve. I just had mine March 15th with Dr.Kelly and am doing pretty good. Still some gas issues, but I expect those to pass in time(no pun intended! haha). I would definately start with your original sleeve Dr. first and foremost if you have not already done so. From everything I've seen about him, he looks to be one of the top experts in the sleeve field. If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask and good luck!
  10. I have my sleeve in just 6 days and today I'm noticing I'm sneezing a lot and feel like I'm coming down with a cold! Question is, if I get a head cold and still have it on sleeve day, will they still do the surgery?Hopefully, no temp. or chest congestion! What is something I can do NOW to try and lessen the severity of this cold? Does Zycam actually work? Load up on vitamins? Stay hydrated? Any suggestions? I am REALLY worried I won't be able to get sleeved. I already bought plane ticket, paid for sleeve, and am taking 3 weeks off work. I CAN'T put it off til later. Help! Thanks!
  11. It happens to me when I eat late in the evening or night time and the food(usually meat or high fat/protein)just sits in the gut like a rock. So I try not to eat after 6 or 7pm. Good luck
  12. So Dr.Kelly uses NO narcotics?? I don't know how I feel about that. I take narcotics for chronic pain management and I'm sure I have somewhat of a tolerance.i want to know that they can be made available IFneeded. I don't want to have to beg or fight for decent pain relief. I hope this won't be an issue. Chances are I won't need narcotics anyway, but if I DO, I don't want to have any big problems getting them. Congrats on your surgery! Glad you're doing well and hope you continue to do so.
  13. I too am going alone to San Diego and then to Mexico to Dr.Kelly March 15th. I too am scared out of my wits but excited at the same time. Instead of fretting and worrying about doing it all alone, I'm trying to look at the bright side and think of it as a holiday of sorts. Some time just for ME. Although I'll be in some pain post op,I'm just going to focus on myself for a week.So try to ENJOY the time for YOU and focus on the wonderful benefits you will soon be seeing from this surgery. You'll be home and back to the daily grind sooner than you think! I'll pray for you and keep you in my thoughts. Things are going to be great!
  14. March 15th with Dr.Kelly in TJ. WOOHOO!! Anyone else gonna be down there the 15th thru 19th? If so, let me know. (who is Dr. Nick?)
  15. i' m taking 3 weeks off. I work on a busy medical/surgical floor at a hospital and judging from a couple past surgeries I've had,I think 3 weeks will be ok for me. Thought about just 2 weeks at first but I'd rather take the time off and not need it than not take enough time off and realize i went back to work earlier than I should have. i think people just have to try and know their bodies/themselves somewhat and try to gauge what will hopefully work best for them. Good luck!
  16. HI, i too have been having some conflicting feelings regarding surgery. (I'm planning my sleeve for March 15th with Dr.Ramos Kelly.) At times i let my mind wander too far into the unknown and get myself worked up. but the fact is I know it is going to be fine. Look at how many thousands upon thousands of people have surgeries every day and turn out with great results.Even when many of these surgeries are elective (like face lift, tummy tuck, lipo, etc.) Many surgeries have to be done in order to save people's lives and A LOT of even those very risky procedures turn out just like they are expected to...just fine. I have had 2 other surgeries in the past, gallbladder and ovarian cyst and I came through them with flying colors.I try to remember that whenever my mind starts trying to wander a bit too much into "anxiety land" and the 'what if's". If you need encouragement, I will be here to help you. Maybe you can help me here and there in times of weakness. We are doing something wonderful for bodies and minds by having this surgery. I'm tired of being fat and I'm ready to do something about it.And I know this is the tool that is going to help me achieve health, happiness, opportunity, and a NEW LIFE! Don't we deserve it?? So please don't let the small risks of having surgery hold you back from what you will achieve with the great BENEFITS from surgery!! you will be fine! hang in there!
  17. Sweet! I would absolutely LOVE to have a copy! that's great what you're doing to help all us fellow sleevers out. Thanks so much! Miters36@gmail.com
  18. Setting my heart on March 15th for vsg with Dr.Ramos Kelly. Anyone else?
  19. 12/03/10 Hi Sadie, I too am planning my sleeve with Dr.Kelly this coming February 2011. I've been hoping to find someone else using this surgeon as well. I haven't decided on the exact date as of yet, but maybe we could be "sleeve buddies". :-) Let me know what you think and I'll get back to you later (cause I'm at work but wanted to reply to your post) haha. Miters
