  1. Had surgery Friday April 30th and I am doing awesome. Only had to take 2 pain pills the day of surgery. None on Saturday or today. No pain, not hungry, but.....My voice is crazy! I guess from the tube down my throat for surgery? I can just barely talk. The majority of my voice is gone, and I have to clear my throat all the time just to get a whisper of a word out. Of course my husband is over-joyed! ha ha, and my mom says it sounds sexy.....thanks mom for trying to make me feel better. Anyone have trouble post-op with their voice? I know that there are much worse things after lapband surgery to worry about, but it is really annoying! Thanks!! Warmly, Leslie
  2. Hello! I was banded April 30th 2010 and my doctor used Dermabond glue....it is STILL there....itches like CRAZY, but still there.....they used a good amount!

    BCBS = 1 ; Patient (me) = 0

    Hello! I have BCBS of Ill and they covered 100% of my surgery (banded April 30th 2010). The only thing I had to do was see my general doctor once a month for 3 months for a "doctor prescribed" diet......I have been with my doctor since 1998 and I am a nurse so we, um, "documented" at each visit that I was on a high Protein low fat diet and checked my weight and BP at each visit....cost me $15 a month. Then I saw a dietician and had a psych eval (luckily from the SAME person who happend to be both) during one visit....she also is a bandster! That is all I had to do. The surgeon wrote a "Letter of Necessity" and turned it in with all of the information sent over from the doctors and we heard back within 2 weeks that I was covered! Give it a try! You will be so happy when they tell you that it is covered at 100%.....hopefully! BTW my BMI was a 36-40 fluctuating and I had NO other co-morbities (diabetes, hypertension, etc.....)! Good Luck! Warmly, Leslie

    Post-Op 1 week Today!

    Hello! Thank you both for the reply! The Left shoulder pain has strangely lessened, but comes back with a vengence when I "eat", and I am on full liquids.....oh boy, wonder what it will be like on mushies and regular food? AH! My husband went to the local GNC and bought me som New whey Protein tubes....42g of protein per tube and I am adding one to my diet a day as I am having trouble getting in all of my protein. I feel like I am eating, or drinking ALL DAY LONG just to get in my 85-100g of protein a day! Thanks again, let's hope this works and helps me crawl out of this fatigue fog! Warmly, Leslie
  5. Here is how I feel......TERRIBLE! My daughter's preschool teacher had Lapband surgery by the same surgeon about 6 weeks ago, and I wonder EVERY DAY how in the world she went back to work so soon....and to work with the little-ones too! The Left sided Clavical/Shoulder pain is unbelievable...and I have HIGH pain tolerance! BUT the fatigue is the worst for me....I could sleep all day long! I expected to be hungry, but I am not. I expected to be sore and in pain from the surgery, but I am not. As a matter of fact I was walking the neighborhood the evening of my surgery....only took 2 pain pills...over a week ago! Did NOT expect the "Other" side effects....guess I should have researched more, even though as a nurse I have been researching since July 2009.....extensively! Please tell me how you all felt after surgery and if I just need to be a little more patient! Thanks!! Warmly, Leslie :thumbup:

    What you want after

    I am having surgery this Friday. I can NOT wait to.... *Wear shorts in the summer and not capri's *Shop at regular clothing stores and not Plus Size stores *Keep my eyes open while making love with my husband :thumbup: *Play on the floor with my 5 year old and not have to crawl over to the couch to get up off the floor *Wear a swimsuit of any kind and get in the pool with my daughter *Fly to see my sister in Olympia, Wa *Someday take my daughter to an amusement park and ride the rides with her....when she is old enough too! *Be able to get up in my husband big Jeep without looking like a struggling hipo *Excercise!!!!!
  7. I can deal with being deprived of my daughter's 5th birthday cake, ice cream and food from her party last Sunday. I can also deal with being ever so slightly hungry at times. BUT, what I am having the hardest time with is having NO energy! NONE! I want to sleep ALL THE TIME! The last two days I have not been able to get up to take my daughter to her preschool.....ugh! Please tell me this goes away after surgery when I might get to eat more!??? PLEASE! Warmly (and very tired), Leslie
  8. From reading here in the forums I have found that my pre-op diet is really a lot more extreme than most on here, but I am one of those anal type of people that follow the directions to a tee....I think it must be the nurse part of me! I can have 1-2 Atkins shakes a day. All the sugar free (SF) Jello, SF popcicles, broth and Crystal Light and SF Kool-aid I want. In moderation I can have 1/2 cup cottage cheese a day, 1 cup of skim milk a day, 1 No Sugar Added Fudgecicle a day, 16 ounces of juice a day.....and that is it. Thanks for replying everyone! I hope to get some energy back after surgery!! I will keep you all informed!! Thanks again!
  9. are staying in the hospital after surgery? My surgery date is Friday April 30th and it is out-patient. But I have been looking at pictures of those banded in the hospital, reading about what to bring to the hospital, etc.... and now wondering if this is really a "out-patient procedure" as my surgeon stated!? Thank you all in advance! Warmly, Leslie
  10. Hello! I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself! I had my pre-op appointment yesterday, I start my 10 day liquid diet tomorrow and surgery is scheduled for Friday April 30, 2010 at 9am! Hello from Missouri!

    Hello! Thank you so much for replying! I actually grew up 50 miles from where I am now! My mom still lives in Chesterfield, MO and I grew up in the St. Louis area! My surgeon is Dr. Gregg Ginsgerg from Festus, MO so I am going to have my surgery at Jefferson Regional Hospital (They changed the name of it....I still call it JMH). I have wonderful insurance from my husband and they just changed the 6 month to 3 month follow with the doctor, so I just got done in February with mine! I will keep my fingers crossed and pray that you get your May date!!! Thanks again for contacting me and for the welcome! Take care! Warmly, Leslie
