  1. My surgeon requests UGI. I had both this week while in hospital since my discharge was held because I had difficulty with fluids. It was a bad esophagitis. The banding was fine and when the endoscope was passed, it passed through easily to duodenum. I am on medication for the esophagitis and clears. I get full fast. so far taking in 2 ounces the most and I am full. I am down 13 pounds this week...
  2. Hi Finally discharged today. Doing much better. Started clears last night and progressed nicely. I am having lukewarm tea for gas and I cannot drink anymore, too much. I weighed in this afternoon before I left hospital and am down 13 pounds. Woohooooo. I will continue phase II on Monday is liquids, protein drinks, sugar-free pops, sugar free yogurt, skim milk, broth. For the rest of the weekend. just phase I which is strictly liquids. I go for my first visit with surgeon on Friday. Looking forward to more exciting news once I get on the scale. Good luck to all the new bandsters. Lydia
  3. Hi... I will post as soon as I up and about. Lydia "The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step."
  4. Hi Thanks. talk to you soon.
  5. Good luck. My surgery is in a.m. I did not have to do liquid diet. I had veggie personnel size pizza, glass of sangria, Water and salad. It will be a very long time before I can sangria and pizza. I attended support group meeting tonight. It was a great motivator. There was a gentleman that lost 189 lb with banding. Another fella had dropped over 70 with banding. It helped me keep calm. Lydia
  6. Hi Surgery is in a.m. Have to report to hospital at 5:30 a.m. Trying to keep calm. I did not have to do a liquid diet. Dietician said to eat sensiblyI I should be in bed but it will be a long night. Many prayers. Lydia
  7. Hi... I am scheduled as the first case in the morning. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. Prayers please and I will say prayers to those having surgery in a.m. as well. Lydia
  8. RN here too. Med-surg background, currently faculty and staff educator. Still keep active at bedside per diem. Looking forward to "being a skinny b***h" too, lol. When I return back to school in Sept. I want to look like a totally different person from the one who left on vacation at the end of the Spring semester. Make everyone think there is a new professor on campus. I am getting banded tomorrow, 7/26. Have to be at the hospital by 5:30 a.m. I am the first case of the day. My surgeon requires an overnight stay to make sure all is well and that I am able to tolerate 3-4 ounces of Fluid before discharge. Lyd RN
  9. Hi Juana, Doctor did not put me on any special diet. I did not require one but I have been careful. I just returned from Vegas yesterday. While there I had responsibly and did a lot of walking on the strip to the point that I had to buy a knee support band. I am trying not to get nervous or anxious. It is on my mind because I have a paper to write for school that I have been putting off because I cannot concentrate but have to get it done tonight. Many prayers tonight. I am going to a support meeting tonight to help me calm down. I am on the OR schedule as the first case. I am a nurse so yes I can understand what you are saying about worrying more about the procedure. We have to stay calm and pray for protection during our procedure. I will try to post tomorrow sometime or Wednesday once I have access to my computer. Lydia
  10. Hi Being banded tomorrow. Just got the call that I am the first case of the day [5:30 a.m.]. Now the emotions start full gear. Prayers tonight. Very confidence... God bless.
  11. Hi The diet is the hardest thing. My doctor and dietician were very adamant that I follow the diet to avoid any problems. I have practice being on liquids and I must admit that it is the hardest thing. I am determined to stick to it. I do not want to have any problems post op because I brought them on because I can't keep my mouth closed. My brother-in-law had trouble with the diet. My poor sister was the stomach police for one month. He did well, dropped 88 pounds. I have to keep busy not to think about food. I have cleaned my refrigerator completely of all ills. Just liquids, Protein liquids as per my nutrition booklet. Lydia
  12. Hello, My surgery date is tomorrow, July 26.
  13. Hi, I am new to the site. I, too, am being banded tomorrow. I am waiting to hear from hospital with time. I am trying to remain cool, calm and collective, but it is still at the back of my mind. Trying to keep busy but still there. I am positive and will say prayer tonight for speedy recovery and protection throughout procedure. It has been over a year since I started the journey. I just returned from a trip to Las Vegas. I had a great time. I was very careful with what I ate and did a lot of walking. Good luck to all. I will try to post tomorrow night. My surgeon requires an overnight hospital stay. I have all my meds and Protein shakes at home as well as everything I will need. Stay positive. God bless. Lydia
  14. Dumping syndrome does not occur with the band. This is more common with the Roux-n-Y procedure. Dumping syndrome is rapid gastric emptying as a result of consumption of sugars and carbs. It sets off a chain of events that is not very nice. Follow-up with your healthcare provider. Lydia
  15. When did you get banded? Was it recent? Good luck. From all that I am learning, I find that one of the hardest hurdles is the liquid diet. Lydia
  16. Hello Hope everyone had a great day today. I had a very busy day today running around to the different appointments. My day started off with a visit to the lab for bloodwork. After the laboratory visit, I took a leisurely walk to the radiology office for the abdominal sonogram. By now my stomach is gurgling from hunger since the last time thing I ate was a Protein bar around 9p the night before. I had to be fasting for bloodwork plus for sonogram. I was hungry but I ignored it. After my test was completed, I went and had a large salad with minimal dressing (not a big fan of salad dressing), a diet coke and a baked potato. I walked to the pharmacy to buy some Calcitrate with D. It was a beautiful day today so I walked to all my visits since they were all in the area. I went home for about two hours. At 3p I had my 1 on 1 nutrition consult. The nutritionist spent an hour with me discussing my diet history plus going through the entire postop dietary regimen as well as the maintenance phaseonce I reach there. At first, it appears overwhelming but as I listened and asked questions, it got clearer. I find the most intense of the diet regimen is the first two weeks of liquids. The puree food I won't mind but it is that liquid phase that we all dread. It is very doable. Tonight as I was having a cup of coffee, I read through the post op and maintenance diet again. At 5p, I had a visit with my cardiologist. I was able to get a last minute appointment instead of waiting for the end of the month. I had a battery of cardiac test done two months so it worked out well because he was able to give me cardiac clearance. He discussed banding with me and asked if this was what I had wanted. To my surprise, he had my bloodwork results from this morning. He reviewed them with me and there were all normal. So next week is GI consult on Wednesday. My journey continues. Lydia Education session: 4-7-10; Support group meeting: 4-7-10 Labs, Nutrition consult, Cardiac consult/clearance; Abdominal sonogram: 4-8-10:smile:
  17. Hi welcome to the site. This is a very helpful forum for all us prospective banders. I have learned alot in the past four days that I have been posting here. We are all in this together. My surgeon does the fill in the office too, unless there is an issue with them finding the post then the patient is sent to interventional radiology where under fluoroscopy, the port is filled. This is a rare occurrence that a patient is sent to interventional radiology.
  18. Hi Welcome We are in this together so you are not alone. I am finding this forum very helpful. What I am finding helpful is reading through the different postings plus have read all the blogs. I feel it gives me a better perspective. From attending my first support meeting last night along with everything that I have read the key strategy is strict compliance with everything especially the postop dietary regimen. Good luck on Monday with your surgery. Stay optimistic with your journey. Lydia
  19. Hi As I sat through the nutrition session today, I kept telling myself the reason why I was there. One of the ladies in the group tonight said, she put herself on liquid diets to get herself prepared then watched what she consumed. She had a fatty liver and enlargement and was placed on a liquid diet and it helped to decrease liver size. Liver size greater than 20 cm, the patient will be placed on a liquid diet. The liquid diet helps the liver to decrease. It enlarged because of the fat stores that tend to build around it. The Protein Supplement requirements for us is: At least 20 gms Protein/serving, No more than 8 gms Carb/serving The patient must drink a protein supplement every day for first month. The highest protein content is Isopure 50 gms/3 gms Carbs, Uninjury (highly recommended during our support group tonight) 20 gm Pro/3 gms Carbs, Nutrimelt & Slimfast Low Carb 20 gm Pro/6 gm Carb.
  20. Cut and paste from tickertape and go to your profile settings, click on customize profile then click on edit signatures, in the white box to the right, click paste and you can preview it.
  21. Good luck with the 60-day liquid diet. That is rather stringent. Hang in there. Lydia:smile:
  22. Hi Yes that was stressed. No liquids with meals because it flushes food through pouch or may cause vomiting and discomfort. The internal police as it was referred to: you will feel sick if you eat too fast or too much. I plan to start making small adjustments as I prepare. The nutritionist did say it was good if weight was lost before surgery. It will not affect your approval as they submit the initial weight. The upper pouch restricts portions> the pouch size is about 1/3 to 1/2 cup.
