  1. Do your feet hurt after walking for exercise because of your weight? Does it improve with weight loss?
  2. Good luck, but don't worry - I cannot feel my port but my doctor found it with no difficulty. I had my first fill Thursday, and was quite worried about it. It was no big deal, and didn't hurt! They gave me 2.5cc filled into my 10cc band. Unfortunately, I still don't feel any restriction. It IS hard, I just keep telling myself that this band will work - just may take awile to get to that "sweet spot" that everyone keeps talking about. Start 3/5/10 350lb First Fill 4/15/10 Current 4/18/10 320lb
  3. Yep - Unfortunately. I told the first nurse and she told me that I had to take my tampon out and "just place a pad between my legs and hold it there". There was no was I was going to do that without panties! So I just didn't do it and left things alone. When the anesthesiologist came in, I told her that it was that time of month and she told me not to worry. Only thing to consider is that you cannot necessarily swallow pills after surgery, so I bought some liquid tylenol just in case. All went well - know what I know now, I just wouldn't say a word unless they specifically ask you! Good luck!!!
  4. Had my fill Thursday. Was allowed to eat regularly last night - 2.5cc and no restriction
  5. Got my first fill today (4-15) - 6 weeks post surgery. I was also very nervous, but even with a bit of prodding around, it only took about 30 seconds. I got 2.5cc in a 10 cc. My doctor said that I should lose around 1-2 pounds/week. If you do the math - that is approx. 60-100 pounds in a year!!! He also said that people usually find their "sweet spot" at around 7cc. Next fill is in 6 weeks. liquids tonigh and tomorrow, mushies for a day, and then soft for another. Excited to see if I got any restriction. Surgery 3-5-10 350lb Current 4-15-10 320lb
  6. Hi Guys, Had my first fill today and a meeting with the nutritionist. I was really nervous about the fill, and even though it took a but of rooting aroung, in reality it only took about 30 seconds. I even asked him if he was sure that he got it in the port:smile2: Didn't hurt at all. I found out that I have a 10cc band and 2.5 cc fill today. Surgeon said that most people find their sweet spot around 7cc. Tomorrow will be 6 weeks and I am down 30 pounds. I know this is still the honeymoon stage, but I am SO happy!!! Yesterday my MD took me off my blood pressure meds, and since the surgery I have not found it necessary to take my Nexium - I AM ON NO MEDS:thumbup: Tonight, tomorrow's breakfast and lunch I am on liquids - then Mushies for 2 meals and then back to soft food for a day. Six weeks until my next fill. Cynthia Surgery 3-5-10 350lb First Fill 4-15-10 2.5cc Current 4-15-10 320lb
  7. Just bought a pedometer. How many steps is considered normal in a day? for weight loss? I keep hearing crazy numbers - how many do you do?
  8. I have my first fill tomorrow and I remember my physician saying about being on liquids again - the thing is that my appointment is at 4:30 - should I be on liquids starting tomorrow morning? Or just afterwards?
  9. Journaling - I like the one on lapband.com (records Protein, cals etc). Preparing - I stocked up my office, car and pocketbook with healthy options (low cal Protein Bars, Water, water flavoring packets, poly o cheese sticks etc). Placing my pocketbook in the trunk of my car, so I won't be tempted to get drive thru fast food) Purchasing a pedometer. Lastly I placed a garbage bag outside my closet - every time something gets too big I put it in the bag to give away - already 2 sized down and 2 bags are filled (my closet has sizes 32 down to 20 in it!!!!) 12. I am five and a half weeks post surgery and still cannot feel my port (at least I don't think that I can). I am having my first fill Thursday and am worried. Anyone else had a fill when they personally cannot feel their port? Surgery 3/5/10 350lb Current 325lb First Fill 3/15/10
  13. It is SO hard sometimes - if only they could have put a little magical band in our brain the same time they put one into our stomach! You are doing great and we are all here to encourage each other! Banded 3/5/10 350 Current 327 FIRST fill 4/14/10
  14. Hi Stevie - I am from Tenafly in Bergen County. Any other NJ bandsters here?
  15. Hi March Bandsters, I liked Stevie's update, so decided to do one too. I am doing great, and SO happy that I had the band placed. Had surgery 3/5. First week lost 15 pounds on liquids. Second week on mushies lost another 5 - totalling 20. Then went onto soft food - and gained 4 pounds even though I was eating between 500-600cals/day! Two weeks, and didn't loose a pound. Then at week 4 (last Thursday) went onto a more regular diet (cals increased to about 100cal/day) and in the last few days not only lost the 4 pounds I gained but an additional 3. I had joined a gym, but unfortunately with the problematic weather in NJ, the roof blew off the gym after week 1! Didn't like the other options in the area, so was not doing anything for 2 weeks. Finally the weather has been nice, so I bought an ipod and have been enjoying walking outside. FYI - I found a bunch of podcasts abount living with the band on itunes. They are great to listen to while walking. How is everyone else doing? My size 32 winter clothing is not going to go into storage this year, but rather to charity :smile2: First Fill 4/15 - I cannot wait! BTW - this was the easiest Passover ever, since I cannot eat bread anyway! Happy Easter and Passover to all. Cynthia:smile2: Banded 3/5 - 350 Current Weight 4/4 - 327 Goal 180
  16. Could I have done any damage to my band? Could it have slipped? 4 weeks post op and ate a big salad - too quickly and now I feel SO full. A bit of heart burn, but I don't feel like I will throw up or anything. Could I have made my band slip? Has anyone else not followed the post op diet correctly?
  17. Okay - 3 weeks post surgery and I went back to my old habits and totally over ate. Didn't feel anything physically which really worries me. I feel SO guilty! I hope that I didn't do any damage to my band or stretch out my pouch :Banane20: My first adjustment isn't for 3 more weeks. I hope that I have the will power to survive.
  18. I think we are just all different. I had surgery on 3/5 (3 weeks on Friday). I had no preop diet and then was on clear liquids only for a week. That first week I lost 20 pounds. It's been 2 weeks since I have been on mushies and soft food (averaging 600 cal/day) and I've been exercising - guess what? I have gained 54 pounds back. I think all of us are going into starvation mode and our bodies are just reacting differently to it. We all just have to keep being string and make it through to our first fill (mine is 4/15 - I cannot wait!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
  19. I was banded 3-5 and was on liquids week 1 (no pre-op diet). That first week I lost 20 pounds (I know this was a very large amount and mostly Water weight). Week 2, I was on mushies and now I am on soft food. In the last week and a half since starting food, I have gained 2 pounds. My calorie count is around 600 (allowed 3 X 1/2 cup portions of food/day and 2 X 1/4 cup "snacks" per day). My question is the following - when will I start to loose "real" (meaning non water)weight? My first fill is 4/15 and that is when I will be allowed to begin a regular diet. THANKS!!
  20. Liftingchick, Hope you are feeling better.
  21. Thanks guys! I am now taking the Flintstones and the Viactive (against my MD's advice). I guess I will see if they are okay after my first blood test (don't know when that is. Are you guys taking 2 or 3 Flintstones?
  22. Cubby - I was banded on the 5TH. Had no preop diet, and liquids only for 1 week. My second week (Until Saturday) is mushies - I love eggs! I cannot wait until Saturday to have a bit of ground beef or Turkey!!! Congrats on your weight loss! Banded 3/5/10 Starting Weight 350 Current Weight 330
  23. OK guys - Talk to me about the type of Vitamins that your doctor has reccomended. Mine suggested 2 chewable multis a day (Bariatric Advantage) and 2 chewable Calcium citrate 500mg. I CANNOT tolerate the calcium that I purchased at the Vitamin store. It was HUGE (Put your thumb and pointer finger together). Any suggestions on the calcium? What is your MD suggesting? Childrens chewable? Calcium Carbinate? Thanks! Banded 3/5 Starting Weight 350 Current Weight 330 Goal Weight 200
  24. Question for you all - My docter reccomended 2 multi chewable per day and 2X500mg chewable calcium citrate a day. The chewable isn't great, but doable, but I could not even tolerate the chewable calcium without gagging. The pill was HUGE - about the size of the circle when you put your thumb and pointer finger together. Any suggestions for better tasting calcium? Thanks! 25. Hi Bandsters, So - it is 9 days post surgery and am really feeling great! I went to the doecot on Thursday and all seems to be going well. We (all those who had surgery the same day) spent about an hour and a half in a nutrition class. It was very informative. I had no pre-op diet and was on a liqiuid diet until yesterday. Yesterday was my first day on the mushy diet. It consists of 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day with 2 optional 1/4 cup Snacks (same food as eaten during meals. I love the part skim ricotta with a bit of tomato sauce. Luckily - they also alow eggs and watermelon in this stage. I will be on this phase until next Saturday when I can add alot more. So - I am going to have to learn to read my body. They say to eat the 1/2 cup or until you feel full. I don't feel full, but a half an hour, or an hour later feel VERY full. They say to make the meal last for 1/2 an hour, but considering that you are eating only 1/2 cup - this is almost impossible. So - the weight loss is going really well - down 19 pounds in 9 days. I cannot believe it. I joined a gym and have begun walking - up to half an hour. Hope all is going well for the early March surgeries. Starting Weight - 350 Current Weight - 331 Goal Weight - 200
